Mazda has announced that orders for its innovative electric SUV, the Mazda EZ-60, have surpassed an impressive 18,000 units. The company also unveiled a brand-new Sports Edition of the Mazda EZ-6.

The EZ-60 made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. Built upon Changan’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) platform, shared with the Deepal S07, it comes in two electrified configurations. The range-extended model features a 72 kW 1.5-litre engine operating exclusively as a generator, paired with a 190 kW electric motor and a 31.73 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery. This setup offers a pure electric range of approximately 160 kilometers. Although technical specifications for the fully electric model remain undisclosed, initial estimates suggest a competitive presence within its class.

The vehicle measures 4,850 millimetres in length, 1,935 millimetres in width, and 1,620 millimetres in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2,902 millimetres? The EZ-60 boasts a suite of aerodynamic enhancements, including nine strategically placed air ducts and 19 precision-crafted vents, claimed to reduce wind resistance by an impressive 60.8 percent and extend driving range by 41 kilometres.

The EZ-60 features a 26.45-inch ultra-wide 5K display that seamlessly integrates the instrument panel, infotainment system, and local weather controls into a single, intuitive interface. Finger-friendly interfaces have evolved, offering expanded functionalities via touch and vocal commands. When stationary, a 100-inch naked-eye 3D heads-up display’s primary operation is adjusted according to the driver’s eye movement, allowing for an immersive entertainment experience even when the vehicle is parked? Passengers seated in the rear can also access touchscreens featuring local weather updates and media control options, with the added luxury of a 23-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system available as a premium feature.
With a spacious cargo area that initially holds 350 litres, this model is designed for practicality, expanding to an impressive 2,036 litres when the rear seats are cleverly folded. The absolutely electric model provides a spacious 126-litre entrance trunk. Storage compartments are seamlessly integrated throughout the cabin’s design.

The vehicle’s advanced security features comprise nine sophisticated airbags with far-faceted designs, complemented by a high-grade L2-level driver assistance system that leverages the capabilities of five high-definition cameras, five millimetre-wave radar units, and a dozen ultrasonic sensors. The battery security system, a collaborative development with industry leaders CATL and CALB, boasts an impressive eight-layer safety architecture that meets the stringent standards for China’s 2026 regulations.

Reservation for the EZ-60 is now available with a non-refundable deposit of 10 yuan, which will appreciate in value until supplies run out and can be offset against the purchase price. This approach has led to an unacceptable proliferation of initial requests.
