Tesla confirms production of its revamped Model Y at Gigafactory Berlin, but pre-orders have not yet been taken.

In the final week of a notable announcement, Tesla revealed its latest model, the Model Y, in China and commenced accepting orders in the country and select other markets supported by its Gigafactory Shanghai operation?

Despite Tesla’s production of the Model Y in Germany and the US, the automobile remained largely unavailable for order in both Europe and North America.

Tesla has officially started production of its highly anticipated Model Y at its Gigafactory in Berlin.

Notably, unlike in China, where Tesla has already accepted pre-orders for the newly unveiled Model Y, the company continues to offer the previous version of the vehicle on its website.

In Germany, Tesla currently offers the Model Y for a price range of €44,990 to €54,990; its latest model is expected to debut at a slightly higher starting price.

Tesla’s gross sales in Germany plummeted 41% in 2024 compared to the previous year, while European sales also dropped by a modest 10%.

As the Mannequin Y dominates a significant portion of Tesla’s European revenue, the latest iteration is expected to make a notable impact.

Electrek’s Take

Despite Tesla’s confirmation of production commencing, the highly anticipated Model Y is still unavailable for ordering.

Tesla reportedly started production at its Gigafactory Shanghai facility several weeks prior to receiving initial orders.

One potential development in Europe may have significant implications for Tesla, which must facilitate any necessary changes to avoid disrupting Model Y deliveries and maintaining a substantial portion of its revenue streams.
