According to China EV DataTracker, the Tesla Model Y emerged as China’s best-selling vehicle in 2024, with a remarkable sales figure of 480,309 units sold within a year. Unlike many countries, the Chinese market saw an increase in Tesla Model Y sales. By 2025, the newly released Tesla Model Y “Juniper” is poised to attract even more customers.

Global demand for the Tesla Model Y has waned significantly. According to Automotive Analyst Felipe Munoz’s Carindustryanalysis report, the crossover’s sales plummeted by 27% in Norway, a staggering 87% in Iceland, and decreased by 31% in Luxembourg. As we reflect on the evolution of Mannequin Y since its inception in 2019, we gain clarity through its maturation over time. Despite this, Chinese-language sales of this model increased in mainland China prior to the release of the facelifted “Juniper” edition.

Tesla Model Y is a top-selling electric vehicle in China.

In 2024, Tesla reported a significant surge in demand for its Model Y, delivering 480,309 units over the course of the year – a 5.24% increase compared to the 456,394 vehicles sold in 2023? According to data for the first 11 months of 2024, it’s worth noting that the Tesla Model Y ranked second, just one position behind the BYD Qin Plus sedan.

The American automaker concluded the year on a high note, selling 61,881 units. Here is the rewritten text:

For the third consecutive month, sales exceeded 70,000 models in November 2022, following similar performances in August 2022 (62,169) and earlier in the year. Tesla China delivered 93,766 vehicles in December, its third-highest monthly total to date.

The significant increase in gross sales may be attributed to the company’s effective advertising and marketing campaigns launched in the Center Kingdom during late 2024, which likely contributed to the surge in demand and revenue. Tesla’s Vice President of Safety and Regulatory Affairs, Grace Tao, noted that the company has successfully avoided any recalls in the past six years, demonstrating its commitment to safety. The factors driving the growth in gross sales include the introduction of the intelligent summons feature and the rollout of the premium pricing discount for Model Y in China, respectively.

The Mannequin Y took the top spot in China’s market for the first time in 12 months of 2024. Notwithstanding, the BYD Qin Plus sedan secured second place with a substantial gross sales volume of 480,025 vehicles, mere 284 units shy of the leader. The initial price of the Tesla Model Y in 2024 started at a value of 249,900 yuan, equivalent to approximately $34,100 USD.

On January 10, Tesla unveiled its latest Model Y variant, “Juniper”, exclusively in China, priced between 263,500 and 303,500 yuan, equivalent to approximately $39,950-$41,400 USD.

The newly introduced model features an updated design, boasting a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.22 Cd, a generous 100-litre expansion in trunk space, and elevated specifications for superior performance. The all-new electric vehicle will start rolling off assembly lines in March 2025 and embark on a journey to Chinese consumers. The all-new Tesla Model acquired 50,000 pre-orders in China on its launch day, signaling a strong start.
