In 2024, General Motors outsold all other American automakers by offering more electric vehicles (EVs) outside their facilities than any other company in the United States. General Motors’ electric vehicle (EV) gross sales skyrocketed by 125% in the fourth quarter, driven by strong demand for new models such as the Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer EVs.
General Motors accelerated ahead of competitors in 2024 with its innovative electric vehicle lineup.
General Motors delivered 43,982 electric vehicles in the United States during the final quarter of 2024, a significant surge of 125% compared to the same period in 2023. General Motors recorded its second consecutive month of electric vehicle (EV) sales exceeding 15,000 units in December, marking a notable achievement as the second-largest automaker after Tesla to achieve this milestone.
Recent advancements in electric vehicle technology, including the innovative Chevy Equinox EV, have played a key role in driving innovation and progress in the field of electrical engineering. General Motors has committed to delivering an additional 18,089 electric Equinox models this fall for a total of $28,874 in 2024.
Following its launch in May, General Motors revealed that the electric Equinox has quickly risen to become one of the top five best-selling electric vehicles (EVs) in the US market.
Automotive innovators like the Cadillac Lyriq and electric variants of Chevrolet’s Blazer and Silverado models played a significant role in boosting overall sales figures. With nearly 9,000 additional Lyriqs added to the mix this autumn, General Motors managed a staggering total of over 28,400 units sold across its entire portfolio for the past year. The Chevrolet Blazer and Silverado EVs are gaining momentum, with 7,883 units and nearly 2,176 models slated for delivery in the fourth quarter.
As the GMC Hummer EV experiences unprecedented interest, dealerships are struggling to meet the surging demand for this electric behemoth. General Motors offered an additional 5,091 Hummer EVs (SUV and pickup) this autumn, representing a year-over-year increase of 151%, bringing the total to 13,993 units sold in 2024, a surge of 331%.
General Motors is poised to revolutionize its fleet with an influx of innovative electric vehicles, including the highly anticipated Cadillac Escalade IQ and GMC Sierra EV. This autumn, General Motors has offered a total of 2,071 units: 670 Escalade EVs and 1,401 Sierra pickups.
The company noted that its expansion would enable General Motors to become the second-largest seller of electric vehicles (EVs) in the US by the end of 2024, trailing only Tesla. General Motors aims to deliver 114,432 electric vehicles in 2024, a significant 50% increase from the previous year’s figures. General Motors’ market share in the US electric vehicle (EV) sector nearly doubled throughout 2024, surging to approximately 12% by the end of the fourth quarter.
Ford earlier reported that it sold 30,176 electric vehicles in the fourth quarter, an increase of 16% over the same period last year. In 2024, Ford trailed behind General Motors as it sold 97,865 electric vehicles (EVs) in the US market, lagging slightly behind GM’s total of over 114,400 EV units.
General Motors’ development accelerates amid electric vehicle (EV) market surge, following Tesla’s quarterly miss, which saw 495,570 vehicles delivered in the fourth quarter. Tesla delivered nearly 1.78 million electric vehicles (EVs) across its entire final year, just shy of the approximately 1.8 million units delivered in 2022.
According to Rory Harvey, General Motors’ Government VP and President of Worldwide Markets, the company’s gross sales growth can be attributed to its ability to offer “something for everyone,” regardless of customers’ driving preferences.
What’s expected to happen by then? General Motors is set to launch two all-new Cadillac luxury electric SUVs in the first quarter of 2025: the three-row VXRQ and the compact Optiq.
