Hyundai Motor Group’s American operations broke a new record for US gross sales in 2024.

Hyundai and Kia have been making significant waves in the US auto market, achieving a combined record-breaking year of sales in 2024. Despite appearances, this could merely mark the commencement.

As electric vehicles (EVs) gain traction globally and new charging infrastructure comes online, South Korean automakers are well-positioned to capitalize on increasing demand for their eco-friendly vehicles in the United States by 2025.

Kia recorded its seventh straight year of increasing customer sales, a remarkable streak that underscores the brand’s growing popularity. For the second consecutive year, the company shattered its annual revenue record.

By 2024, the corporation’s total quantity had reached approximately 797,000 units in the US market. According to Sean Yoon, CEO of Kia North America, the achievement serves as validation that “our strategy is bearing fruit in further enhancing the Kia brand.” A significant factor driving the growth is Kia’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) portfolio.

“Kia has cemented its position as a leading player in the electric vehicle market,” Yoon explained, primarily attributing this success to the “commercially successful launch of our flagship EV9 model.”

The demand for new electric vehicles (EVs) has reached unprecedented levels.

The EV9 marks Kia’s entry into the market with its first-ever three-row electric SUV. Since introducing electric vehicle (EV) options to the market with deliveries commencing in late 2023, Kia has seen significant demand for its EV9 models, offering more than 22,000 various styles across the United States last year? The brand’s growth is particularly notable in contrast to its initial foray into the electric vehicle market with the EV6, which saw a significant surge of 21,715 units sold last year alone.

South Korean automaker Hyundai has shattered its previous US sales record, with over 836,800 vehicles sold in 2024, representing a 4% year-over-year increase. The corporation attributed a substantial portion of its growth to surging demand for its electric vehicles.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 solidified its position as one of America’s top-selling electric vehicles, with 44,400 units sold in 2024 – a remarkable 31 percent increase over the previous year’s sales figures.

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, expressed confidence that the company’s momentum would continue unabated, citing as catalysts “thrilling new designs” such as the IONIQ 9 and the increased production capacity at its US-based electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Georgia, where production is ramping up.

Hyundai has commenced construction of electric vehicles at its facility, kicking off with the enhanced 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 model in October. Hyundai’s updated electric SUV offerings now boast more versatility, elevated style, and a NACS port for seamless charging at Tesla Superchargers.

As US manufacturing capacity increases, five Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis electric vehicles (EVs) are now eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit for the first time, potentially driving up demand in 2025.
