Following its most successful electric vehicle sales quarter to date in the fourth quarter, Ford is expanding its “Electric Vehicle Energy Promise” initiative, offering complimentary residential charging stations to eligible customers. Following a year of significant momentum, Ford continues to ride the wave of success after setting new sales records with its F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E models in 2024.
Ford sets record for electric vehicle sales in autumn of 2023 and full year 2024.
Ford’s total U.S. gross sales surged 8.8% in the fourth quarter, with 530,660 vehicles sold. Ford’s full-year 2024 gross sales surged to a record-breaking 2.07 million units, a significant 4.2% increase from 2023 and more than double the industry’s estimated growth rate of 2%.
The growth was largely driven by the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, encompassing electrified cars, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and other eco-friendly models. In 2024, Ford reportedly acquired nearly 285,600 units of electric vehicles, representing a significant 38% year-over-year increase, which the company proudly claims surpasses its cross-town competitors, General Motors (GM) and Stellantis.
Ford’s fully electric vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit, broke sales records last year. The corporation acquired a total of 30,176 electric vehicles (EVs) during the fourth quarter, representing a year-over-year increase of 16%. For the full year, this brought the total to 97,865 EVs, a remarkable 34.8% rise from the previous year in 2024.
Ford’s electric SUV, the Mach-E, achieved its strongest sales quarter to date with 16,119 units sold this autumn of 2024. In 2024, the Ford Mustang Mach-E emerged as the second-highest selling electric SUV in the US market, trailing only Tesla’s Model Y, with a remarkable 51,745 units sold, representing a year-over-year increase of 27%.
Although F-150 Lightning sales declined by 10 percent in the autumn quarter, with just 10,703 units sold, Ford still managed to sell more than 33,500 electric pickups in 2024, representing a 38 percent increase from the previous year.
Meanwhile, Ford’s electric van, the E-Transit, has seen surging demand, with gross sales jumping a whopping 64% in 2024. Ford acquired more than 12,600 E-Transit vans in the previous year.
Following a surge in Electric Vehicle (EV) gross sales this Fall 2024, Ford has decided to prolong its “Power Up” promotion. Introduced in October, this innovative initiative provides a complimentary Level 2 residential charger to every new electric vehicle (EV) customer, along with reimbursement for installation costs. The current system will operate until March 31, 2025.

Electrek’s Take
As a major player in the automotive industry, Ford is offering substantial perks for electric vehicle enthusiasts. Will the surge in electric vehicles in 2025 allow Ford to sustain its strong sales momentum following a record-breaking quarter driven by reductions and promotions in the Fall?
Ford’s delay of its three-row electric SUV leaves an opportunity open for competitors such as Kia, Hyundai, Volvo, Rivian, and others to capitalise on the gap.
Hyundai and Kia have shattered US gross sales records for 2024, driven by strong demand for their electrified vehicles and the commencement of domestic production operations. South Korean automaker Hyundai recently inaugurated a massive electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in Georgia, USA, towards the end of last year. The company is currently building new models, including the upgraded 2025 IONIQ 5 and the forthcoming three-row IONIQ 9. New electric vehicles (EVs) built on this facility are now eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit for the first time.
The successful rollout of Kia’s three-row EV9 SUV was a key factor in driving the company’s profitability. Following the initial launch of its flagship models in late 2023, Kia successfully sold more than 22,000 units of the EV9, a remarkable achievement in the electric vehicle market last year. Kia is manufacturing the EV9 at its West Point, Georgia plant, thereby allowing the automaker to become eligible for the coveted $7,500 federal tax credit.
