While several electric vehicles (EVs) offer a ‘pet’ mode, the lesser-recognized feature of the Xiaomi SU7 is its ability to simulate aquatic environments through the ‘fish’ mode. Recently, an enthusiastic angler showcased a surprising application for their Xiaomi Su7 device, following a prompt from its CEO, Lei Jun.
While Lei Jun’s claim of using the Xiaomi SU7’s frunk as a makeshift aquarium for storing fresh catch might be an exaggeration, he did initially market its utility by highlighting his potential to stash caught fish there and thereby prevent any unpleasant odors from permeating the vehicle had they been placed in the trunk.

The Xiaomi SU7 boasts one of the largest trunks currently available in the Chinese EV market. Like many modern trunks, the 105-liter-capacity compartment is constructed from durable plastic materials. While it lacks a lining, the container features two discreet rubber plugs on its rear side, designed for easy drainage of liquids.

The aquatic transportation device enables individuals to efficiently transport fish while also accommodating the need to temporarily submerge them in water. Consequently, the vehicle’s drainage capacity renders the process of cleaning and scrubbing the front trunk compartment significantly easier following such use. A rubber gasket or O-ring is intended to prevent fluid leakage into various car compartments.
A reel of triumph: Fishing enthusiast showcases an astonishing catch, hauling in seven gargantuan fish to fill the compartments of their trusty Xiaomi SUV7. Are these boxes even feasible for the trunk’s capacity? Onlookers may innocently wonder whether the front trunk is experiencing any leakage issues; rest assured, it’s not.

The Xiaomi Mi 7 was a sensation in the tech world when it debuted in 2024. Deliveries began in April, and by the end of the 12-month period, Xiaomi, previously inexperienced in automotive production, successfully delivered 135,000 vehicles.
During his New Year’s address, Lei Jun outlined a sales target of 300,000 units for 2025. While rumors have been circulating about a potential release window for Xiaomi’s YU7, it remains uncertain whether this will indeed be the case.
The YU7 can be manufactured at Xiaomi’s Beijing facility in the second production batch. Given that the company has already exceeded 20,000 SU7 fashion deliveries per month, achieving their 300,000 target should be relatively straightforward.
