The NIO ES6’s Onvo L60 fastback SUV, boasting an electric powertrain and swappable battery, achieved a remarkable milestone just three months after its domestic debut – delivering 20,000 units to eager customers. Its primary rival, the Tesla Model Y, nearly tripled its sales in China within just one month.

NIO has introduced the Onvo, a premium vehicle designed to drive up gross sales volume. The Onvo L60, China’s first mannequin, started selling on September 28 at an introductory price of 149,900 yuan (approximately $21,200), featuring battery-as-a-service. Three months into its delivery schedule, Onvo announced a significant milestone: it had already delivered 20,000 units of its popular L60 crossover model.

Onovo’s L60 module has reached a significant milestone, exceeding 20,000 units supplied to customers worldwide.

According to data from China EV DataTracker, the Onvo L60 managed a significant surge, with 832 units sold during its final three days of September. In October, a total of 4,319 prospects received this mannequin. In November, our company delivered a total of 5,082 vehicles. Onovo reportedly sold 9,767 units of the L60 within a span of just 27 days in December, resulting in a substantial surge in gross sales.

Prior to the start of the month, Onvo’s officers emphasized their intention to surpass the milestone of 10,000 deliveries by year-end. By leveraging this advanced technology, Onvo is poised to exceed the impressive daily output of 360 models, a testament to its commitment to innovation and excellence. In early December, Onvo’s Chief Executive Officer, Xia Qinghua, publicly disclosed that Onvo electric vehicles were experiencing difficulties with battery replenishment at Nio Power Swap Stations. The predicament arose primarily due to limitations in battery production capabilities.

Again, the Onvo L60’s impressive sales figures position it as a strong competitor to Tesla’s Model Y in the market. Despite this, the Nio’s fastback SUV still lags behind the Model Y in terms of sales volume in China, failing to match its rival’s popularity. The American Electric Vehicle model experienced a surge in popularity in November, with 44,576 units sold, catapulting it to become the second-best selling model in China, just behind the budget-friendly BYD Seagull.

Onovo offers an extended opportunity to convince customers to opt for the L60 over the Y. While it’s not simply about creating a superior product, it’s really about countering the Tesla Model S’s reputation as an industry benchmark. As newcomers like Onvo struggle to gain traction, it’s clear that they face an uphill battle in competing with market leaders like Mannequin Y.
