Tesla Semi factory gets its main structure, on track for production in 2025

Tesla has completed the primary structural phase of its new manufacturing facility for the Tesla Semi, setting the stage for production to commence in 2025 as planned.

Despite encountering significant delays, the Tesla Semi program appears to be finally gaining momentum.

Despite being initially revealed in 2017 with a planned re-entry into the market by 2020, the product didn’t officially begin production until late 2022.

Despite unveiling a new manufacturing model and commencing production, the system failed to make significant progress.

By October 2023, it emerged that Tesla had manufactured around 70 units of its Tesla Semi electric trucks, which were primarily being used by the company itself and its main client, food and beverage giant PepsiCo.

Tesla expanded its Gigafactory Nevada facility in January 2023 to manufacture the Tesla Semi on a larger scale.

Despite passing more than a year since the initiative began, there was still a noticeable lack of updates or progress reported.

Twelve months ago, Tesla finally started making tangible progress on its new manufacturing facility site, marking a significant step forward in the company’s development plans. Instead of seeming like, Tesla opted for a different approach, transforming their initial plan to boost production at the existing Gigafactory in Nevada into a new facility adjacent to the original site.

By April, Tesla announced plans to complete its manufacturing facility within the next year, with production of Tesla Semi trucks expected to begin in late 2025.

Prior to the start of the year, Tesla issued a statement updating its progress on the production line (via Dan Priestley, head of the Tesla Semi program, on X).

Semi-manufacturing unit in Nevada marks a major milestone as it installs the last remaining structural steel component atop its building’s primary space. The project’s impressive design and execution were a direct result of the collaboration between the development group and their skilled contractor partners, who collectively ensured a secure and efficient outcome. The manufacturing facility thrives with unwavering dedication and expertise.

The construction was completed relatively quickly as a team effort, but there is still more work to be done before Tesla can achieve full-scale manufacturing.

By the end of 2025, Tesla aims to complete its manufacturing facility setup and begin producing the Tesla Semi on newly installed production lines.

As recently announced, Tesla is poised to bring the highly anticipated Tesla Semi closer to reality by introducing it to potential customers.

Trends indicate that issues are progressing well on their expected course.
