The Big Three’s big contribution: Ford, GM, and Toyota pledge $3 million to Trump?

The President of the United States:

Thank you very much for that tremendous welcome. It’s a great honor to be here at Kennedy Space Center today, celebrating the incredible achievement of putting American astronauts back on American rockets, and doing it in style.

This is not just a mission to Mars, this is a mission to America’s future. We’re going to make America great again, and we’re going to start by sending Americans to space.

The Big Three auto manufacturers – Ford, General Motors, and Toyota North America – have collectively pledged a significant contribution of $3 million to support the inauguration festivities of President-elect Donald Trump. Ford and General Motors are offering a lineup of vehicles for the January 20th event.

Ford CEO Jim Farley expressed optimism that former President Trump might be receptive to assisting legacy automakers in accelerating the promotion of their electric vehicles (EVs), according to a Reuters investigation. “As given Ford’s prominent role in the US economy and manufacturing landscape, it’s reasonable to assume that policymakers would carefully consider the company’s perspective,” Farley noted.

General Motors’ CEO Mary Barra claimed alignment with the Trump administration’s goals, noting: “A strong economy is in everyone’s best interest.” Can we establish a strong and resilient industrial foundation in this country? Automotive industries play a vital role in our economy. There are many things we could potentially improve.

Donald Trump’s presidential transition team has been actively preparing to abolish electric vehicle (EV) incentives and funding, a move that would disproportionately benefit companies like Ford. Moreover, Trump’s proposal to impose steep tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada could further exacerbate the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) market’s existing struggles, potentially pushing it even farther behind.

According to reports, Donald Trump’s 2017 presidential inauguration raked in a substantial $106.7 million, dwarfing the $61.8 million garnered by Joe Biden at his 2021 inauguration celebration.

Top-tier CEOs and their respective companies are committing substantial sums to President-elect Trump’s inaugural committee, with industry giants such as Amazon and Meta collectively donating $2 million. Robinhood Markets has committed $2 million, with an additional $1 million pledged by ride-hailing giant Uber, and a further $1 million contributed by its CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, bringing the total to $4 million. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has pledged a personal donation of $1 million to the cause.

“‘Everybody wants to be my friend!’ Trump recently posted on Reality Social, his social media platform. As he prepares to take office again, numerous CEOs are eager to curry favor with him.” As a result, corporations heavily reliant on fossil fuels could potentially reap substantial benefits from Trump’s overhaul of US financial regulations. While contributing financially to this movement may not evoke the same controversies surrounding donations to a prominent Political Action Committee (PAC), Without limits on donations to inaugural committees, organizations can freely curate influence by donating generously.

For large donations of at least $1 million, President-elect Trump is offering exclusive perks, including invitations to inaugural events and private dinners with him and his team, allowing donors to gain coveted face-time, according to reports.

As the world awaits the latest pronouncements from the incumbent president, a flurry of posts on Reality Social on Christmas Day showcased his unbridled energy. In an unprecedented hour-long posting spree, he wished “Merry Christmas to the Radical Left Lunatics” before targeting Biden’s recent pardons, urging the “37 most violent criminals” to “GO TO HELL.” The holiday season has arrived with a decidedly… festive tone.
