The BYD Dolphin has been recognized as the safest vehicle in Latin America, achieving a perfect 5-star rating in the Latin NCAP’s crash and safety assessment program. It’s also the primary battery electric vehicle to have earned a perfect 5-star rating in Latin NCAP’s testing history.
The BYD Dolphin is a compact electric hatchback model that made its market debut in China in 2021. By 2023, it had conquered Latin America, becoming a top-selling phenomenon in Brazil. Prior to its introduction, the BYD Dolphin, specifically tailored for European markets, had secured 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and Australian NCAP’s rigorous crash tests. In December 2022, a Chinese-language variant of this compact hatchback emerged as the safest Chinese-language vehicle to date, as certified by Latin NCAP.
The BYD Dolphin has secured a perfect five-star rating from Latin NCAP, a rigorous testing program designed to assess the safety performance of vehicles sold in Latin America.
The BYD Dolphin, assessed by Latin NCAP, features a standard complement of seven airbags and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package, offering enhanced safety capabilities for occupants. The vehicle’s body is composed primarily of high-strength steel, accounting for 78.2% of its construction. Given its exceptional performance in the New Car Assessment Program, it’s hardly surprising that the automotive achieved such a high score.
The BYD Dolphin achieved the top score in the Infant Occupant safety category with a remarkable 93.17% rating. The Grown-up Security Class purchased approximately 92.6% of its target goal. The outcomes of pedestrian safety and susceptible highway customers’ security have achieved remarkable results, boasting figures of 77.03% and 85.17%, respectively.
Representatives from Latin NCAP revealed that a comprehensive assessment was conducted on the ADAS bundle in this compact five-door hatchback, evaluating its performance in frontal crashes, side impacts, whiplash scenarios, pedestrian safety, electronic stability control, and various advanced driver-assistance systems – including autonomous emergency braking for vulnerable road users, city streets, interurban roads, lane-keeping assist, speed-limit notification, and blind-spot monitoring. The vehicle earned a perfect 5-star rating in this rigorous evaluation.
