Xiaomi YU7 spied in the wild without camouflage

The Xiaomi Yu7 has been spotted undergoing secret tests without any disguise. Here are the footage that provide the first glimpse of what the SUV looks like from every angle. According to Xiaomi founder Lei Jun, the car should be formally known as the Yu Yupeng 7 (Y-U-7).

The electric vehicle’s design features a notably extended hood, with the cockpit starting significantly farther back from the front axle. Despite its initial resemblance to the Ferrari Purosangue, it may not be as impressive upon closer inspection. The automotive design appears to bear a resemblance to an SUV variant of the Xiaomi SU7.

This behemoth measures 4,999 millimeters in length, 1,996 millimeters in width, and 1,600 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 millimeters. So far, a single twin-motor configuration has been listed on the Ministry of Trade and Information Technology’s inventory, with an impressive weight of 2,405 kilograms.

The electric powertrain comprises a pair of motors – a 220 kW unit mounted at the front and a 288 kW one situated at the rear – collectively generating a combined output of 508 kW (681 horsepower). With these rockets installed, the Xiaomi Yu7 can accelerate to an impressive speed of 253 km/h. There may likely be a single-motor variant available to help drive down starting prices.

As officially announced, the twin-motor variant is scheduled to feature a cutting-edge NMC battery supplied by leading industry partner CATL. The new Commonplace trim of the SU7 features a more cost-effective lithium iron phosphate battery pack from BYD, which may have a trickle-down effect on the base model of the YU7, potentially making it more affordable for budget-conscious buyers by reducing its starting price.

Initially, it was thought that mass production of the YU 7 would commence in March, but concerns have arisen regarding its capabilities due to the delayed completion of Xiaomi’s second manufacturing facility, scheduled for later this year. It has been confirmed that gross sales of the YU 7 will commence in 2025. Will allow Xiaomi sufficient time to complete its manufacturing facility.

One significant advantage of revealing the concept earlier is that Xiaomi can proceed with thorough testing without arousing unnecessary attention from paparazzi and curious onlookers.
