The Chery iCar V23, a compact crossover, has been spotted in China featuring an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain. As demand for extended-range electric vehicles surges in China, concerns about meeting the associated anxiety are growing. The iCar V23 Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) is set to debut in the domestic market within the next 12 months.
In 2023, Chery unveiled its iCar model as a mass-market new energy vehicle (NEV) tailored to appeal to younger generations. The model’s inaugural prototype was the iCar-03, a rugged electric sport utility vehicle. On December 16, iCar unveiled its second model, the V23 BEV crossover, a collaborative effort with Xiaomi’s Zhimi subsidiary. The salary range for the position is approximately $13,700 to $19,200 per year. The iCar V23 has reportedly been spotted in China, fueling speculation about its potential Electric Range Extended Vehicle (EREV) powertrain capabilities.
iCar V23 with EREV powertrain
A Chery iCar V23 crossover, boasting an electrified range-extender powertrain, has been spotted at a Chinese auto service facility. The vehicle is capable of employing a spread extender via its exhaust pipe located at the rear. The exterior design of this mannequin appears rough and unpolished. There exists a void where a gasoline cap door would typically reside. Despite being situated beneath the hood, the battery level on the iCar V23 appears to be somewhat depleted. The automotive is currently in its preliminary testing stages.
There’s no information available on the powertrain specifications of the iCar V23 Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). It is likely that this model will feature a Chery-developed variator extender, as used in the Exlanix ET crossover. The engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four, producing 154 horsepower and boasting a thermal efficiency rating of 44.5 percent. We rely on the Chery iCar V23 EREV to handle both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) drivetrain configurations.
The range-extended version of the iCar V23 is expected to be priced lower than its all-electric counterpart. At a price tag of approximately 90,000 yuan ($12,350), we expect a lot from this car. So, this vehicle is poised to become one of the rare mainstream cars in China offering a transmission expander option.
