Reissfelder noted that Andreas Reckewerth’s team of engineers has successfully harnessed the Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform to create an automobile that seamlessly blends sporty performance and efficiency with the refined, elegant styling one expects from a luxury vehicle.
Based on Volkswagen’s flagship ID.7 electric sedan, Reckewerth, head of tech at MEB, and his team developed the ID.X Efficiency EV. He explained that the MEB platform offers numerous unparalleled opportunities for innovative automotive development.
The team needed to build upon the ID.7 platform, focusing on creating a high-performance variant.

Volkswagen has introduced several sporty features to enhance its vehicles’ dynamic performance capabilities. To enhance the driving dynamics, engineers reduced the sports activities suspension height by 60 millimeters (2.36 inches), employing stiffer springs that emphasize agility and handling capabilities.
The carbon fibre design of each entrance lip spoiler and rear diffuser has been crafted to perfection. The rear wing’s aerodynamic performance is optimized by its fabrication from lightweight yet incredibly strong carbon fiber.
The tinted taillights contribute to the vehicle’s dynamic aesthetic, while it rests on 20-inch sports alloy wheels paired with 265mm racing tyres. A vibrant crimson hue accents the car’s underbelly, expertly offsetting the stark black carbon fibre trim to create a striking visual effect.
Within its sleek interior, bespoke carbon-fiber bucket seats and rich purple accents on the steering wheel, door panels, and center console collectively elevate the sensory experience of driving a high-performance vehicle to new heights.
The ID.X Efficiency EV boasts all-wheel drive capabilities, featuring a potent synchronous motor at the rear and an efficient asynchronous motor up front.
While driving in the meantime, a sophisticated Car Dynamics Supervisor skillfully controls the drive torque, ensuring seamless operation of the rear axle differential lock to optimize the vehicle’s overall performance. Customers can manage vehicle performance via the automotive’s 6.7-inch, 17-centimetre heart-centric console display screen.
Although you won’t have the chance to get your hands on the sporty electric limousine (since it’s only a concept car), Volkswagen has begun taking pre-orders for its ID.7 model in Germany, starting at around $62,000 (€56,995).
Volkswagen’s flagship electric sedan is the ID.7. The Volkswagen Group is introducing the ID.7 Professional in European markets, featuring an 86 kWh battery pack that enables a range of up to 435 miles on a single charge. The company’s North American launch timeline is expected to align with its global rollout within the next 12 months; pricing details are still pending finalization.
