Nio battery swap services surpasses 60 million swaps

In a significant milestone, NIO officially announced on December 13th that its innovative battery swap technology has reached an impressive 60 million-plus successful swaps. NIO currently operates 2,785 battery swap stations within mainland China, as well as 909 additional locations along highways. The corporation reached a milestone in July, with 2,500 swap stations now operational globally, including 51 located in Europe.

Since the start of December, the swap stations average around 80,000 transactions daily. It takes Nio just 1.08 seconds to replace the battery of one of its electric cars at their dedicated swap stations?

Prior to this milestone, NIO had already reached 50 million battery swaps in August; remarkably, the company has accelerated its growth, achieving an additional 10 million swaps within just five months. As of now, alongside its 2,785 swap stations, Nio runs a global network comprising 4,618 charging stations and 24,520 charging piles.

On July 2, 2022, NIO achieved a significant milestone by exceeding 10 million battery swaps, marking four years since the inaugural battery swap took place in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018. In just over two-and-a-half years, the corporation has successfully secured an additional 50 million swaps, a testament to its remarkable growth and success.

As part of its August announcement, Nio’s founder, chairman, and CEO Li Bin outlined ambitious plans to achieve battery swap capabilities in an additional 1,200 county-level districts by June 2025. By December 2025, the corporation aims to reach a milestone of successfully targeting approximately 2,300 county-level districts.

The surge in battery swaps is largely driven by the success of Nio’s Onvo L60 SUV, which has contributed significantly to the company’s gross sales. In November, Onvo successfully delivered a total of 5,082 items. The corporation delivered a total of 20,575 vehicles in November. While not all NIO Swap Stations are compatible with Onvo, the company is actively incorporating Onvo-compatible locations, currently totalling 644. By the end of 2025, NIO aims to have established a network of approximately 2,500 Onvo and NIO Swap stations.

Operating swap stations alongside its main presence in China, Nio also has a foothold in Europe, with facilities established in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium. NIO vehicles are also sold in these markets, excluding Belgium.

NIO has significantly accelerated its expansion plans in the United Arab Emirates. The corporation opened its inaugural flagship store in Abu Dhabi in November and anticipates establishing its first fueling station within the country by 2025. NIO is prominently supported by CYVN Holdings, a development financing fund owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi.
