Jaguar’s recent announcements of their Method E ‘I-type’ race car and a prototype of their electric ‘F-Pace’ SUV have kept them in the spotlight this week, with one more piece of news surfacing about the all-electric compact SUV, unofficially known as the ‘E-Pace’, which is now expected to hit the market in 2018.

According to Autocar, the upcoming E-Tempo is expected to share several interior similarities with the F-Tempo, much like the all-electric prototype seen recently, but its design will likely be distinct with a lower roofline and more dramatic styling. The all-electric compact SUV appears to be based on a former platform by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) showcased last year.

JLR’s innovative structural implementations, set to revolutionise their vehicles, centre on an aluminium chassis and a battery pack that spans the entire car floor, akin to Tesla’s pioneering skateboard design. This visionary approach promises heightened rigidity upon impact, bolstering crashworthiness, as well as a lower centre of gravity for enhanced handling and reduced rollover risk.

Since we’ll primarily presume they’re opting for this type of platform owing to its adaptability and straightforwardness in building various vehicles atop a single foundation,

Specifications that have been collected are presented below:

  • Which are allegedly more affordable to deliver yet extend life by a supposed 30% compared to conventional models.
  • According to reports, the prototype has demonstrated this capability; it is expected that the final product will boast an even more impressive range of approximately 280-300 miles when manufactured.
  • A high-performance single-speed and two-speed gearbox combination delivering 308 bhp in a mixed terrain.
  • Autonomous driving technologies are expected to play a key role in shaping the future of mobility within the E-Tempo framework.
