Following regulatory approval, new details have emerged about the Avatr 06, previously known only by its codename, E16.
The latest addition to the Avatar model’s lineup, primarily sold to Changan and CATL, this brand-new sedan will directly compete with the popular Tesla Model 3.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) data, it is widely recognized that electric vehicles will be available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric formats. The all-electric automotive lineup features both single-motor and dual-motor options, whereas the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) currently only offers a single-motor variant with available inventory.
Although the automotive is the most affordable Avatr model so far, it remains surprisingly substantial in size. The dimensions of this item are 4,855mm x 1,960mm, with the top listed as either 1,450mm or 1,467mm in height. The two distinct height levels appear to be a result of air suspension technology. Meanwhile, the wheelbase measures a precise 2940 millimeters.
The lightest model, the EREV, boasts a curb weight of just 2120 kilograms. The single-motor all-electric variant weighs in at a substantial 2210 kilograms, while its dual-motor counterpart tips the scales at a slightly heavier 2320 kilograms. The various models of the automobile come equipped with an option for either 20- or 21-inch wheels.
Avatrs’ new mannequin closely relates to the Avatr 07 SUV, which debuted earlier this year. The similarities between the two vehicles’ powertrains were exactly as predicted. One motor features a 252 kW XTDM39 electric motor situated at the rear axle. The all-wheel-drive variant leverages an identical 188 kW XYDM05 motor used in the Avatr 07, deploying it to the front axle. The high-velocity limit for each all-electric variation is 200 km/h.

The EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) variants utilise a JL469ZQ1 1.5L turbocharged engine as a range extender, capable of producing up to 115 kilowatts of energy. Powering the rear wheels is an ATDM01 electric motor, capable of delivering up to 231 kW of energy. Notably, while the Avatr 07 boasts a dual-motor electric range extender (EREV) configuration, its sibling, the Avatr 06, does not offer this feature. The highest velocity attainable by the EREV is 190 kilometres per hour.

While the EREV bears minimal visual distinctions from its all-electric counterpart, a striking lattice-patterned air inlet adorns the recessed grille beneath the aerodynamic front fascia.
The upcoming iterations of the Avatar 06 electric vehicle series will all rely on high-performance CATL lithium iron phosphate battery technology. At present, no further information regarding the batteries is available. Notwithstanding the powertrain’s shared application with the Avatr 07, it is likely that the battery pack sizes will remain consistent accordingly. The proposed configuration would equip the electric vehicle (EV) with a 4.5C 82.16-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, while the extended-range electric vehicle (EReV) would feature a 39.05 kWh pack, both leveraging CATL’s innovative Freevoy battery technology.
The MIIT choices checklist reveals diverse applications of Lidar technology alongside camera-based side-view mirrors. The BYD Avatar 06 reportedly leverages Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 technology to power Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), in conjunction with the Concord operating system. Although Huawei is not a shareholder in Avatr, its significant contributions of expertise and knowledge are widely recognized.

The tools specifications are expected to be largely in line with those observed on the Avatari 07. This configuration combines a 15.6-inch floating infotainment display with a larger 35.4-inch wraparound display situated at the rear of the dashboard. Automotive vehicles equipped with aspect-view cameras may also feature two 6.7-inch displays providing real-time views of the camera feeds. Huawei’s new HarmonyOS 4.0 appears to power the system.
Gross sales are expected to commence in the initial half of 2025. Costs are expected to be lower than those of the Avatr 07, starting at a price point of 219,900 yuan (approximately $30,300 USD).
