Toyota’s highly anticipated next-generation electric vehicle, touted for its unparalleled efficiency, will now debut later than initially planned, with a new launch date still to be determined. Toyota is putting the brakes on the rollout of its forthcoming electric vehicles (EVs), citing the need to integrate cutting-edge technology that promises to slash costs and hasten production.

Toyota is pushing back the launch of its forthcoming extended-range Lexus electric vehicles.

Toyota commits to a bold electric vehicle (EV) strategy, joining the growing ranks of manufacturers prioritizing sustainable mobility solutions. Japanese automotive behemoth allegedly postpones production start-ups for its forthcoming electric vehicle lineup due to the development of novel manufacturing technologies.

At the Japan Auto Show in late October, we caught our first glimpse of the latest designs. Toyota unveiled a glimpse into its future electric vehicle (EV) architecture, highlighting two concept cars from its luxury brand, Lexus – the LF-ZC and LF-ZL – both slated for release in 2026.

It may take some time to observe the evolving trends in production methods. According to a recent report from a Japanese media outlet, Toyota has decided to push back the start of production for its Lexus electric vehicles (EVs) until mid-2027.

Toyota asserts that its forthcoming Excessive-Efficiency EV battery technology is poised to deliver an impressive WLTP-validated driving range of more than 621 miles (approximately 1,000 km). They may also boast rapid recharging abilities, capable of achieving an impressive 80% charge from just 10% in mere 20 minutes.

The Toyota bZ4X’s all-electric range has been certified at up to 516 kilometres under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), while its US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimate reaches up to 236 miles.

According to the report, Toyota has decided to delay introducing its innovative manufacturing approaches, including giga-casting, as it seeks to reduce costs and accelerate production by doing so.

By 2025, Toyota aims to achieve a cost per kilowatt-hour of its lithium-ion batteries equivalent to those offered by Tesla, which currently stands at around $137.

Toyota reportedly plans to restart production of its electric three-row SUV in the United States by early 2026, following a recent report. The company had initially planned to initiate production of its innovative electric vehicle sport utility vehicle (SUV) at its Georgetown, Kentucky facility in 2025.

Toyota has revised its electric vehicle production target, informing suppliers that it now anticipates producing approximately one million EVs by 2026, a decrease from its initial ambition of 1.5 million units.

The auto giant joins a growing list of rivals, including Ford, GM, and Volkswagen, among others that have recently scaled back their EV plans.
