Established as a pioneering force in the industry, Precedence Bicycles’ flagship model, the Precedence Present, boasts years of experience and innovation in the realm of electric bicycles. The corporation has officially launched its cutting-edge mannequin, dubbed the Precedence Presence Plus.

While retaining its signature essence, the revamped model boasts an impressively potent mid-drive motor, a Gates carbon belt drive system, and a top speed of up to 28 mph (45 km/h) courtesy of Class 3 operation. Despite the added features on the Present Plus, they fail to deliver any meaningful enhancements.

If you’re unfamiliar with Precedence Bicycles, prepare to be impressed, as their tale is truly one to tell. While they are somewhat of an exception within the cycling industry, their unique model effectively blends the traditional strengths of a bricks-and-mortar bike shop with the efficiency of direct-to-consumer sales of electric and pedal-powered bicycles. While there are few places I haven’t been to, nowhere else does it quite like Precedence Bicycles accomplishes this unique approach. Established in New York City, this boutique bicycle shop is owned and operated by individuals who have dedicated their lives to cycling, resulting in a profound understanding of what constitutes a superior ride. The store’s commitment to traditional craftsmanship and timeless design has earned it widespread recognition from purists who appreciate the authenticity and performance of non-electric bicycles.

Despite this, the company is also a prominent direct-to-consumer business, built on a rich legacy of manufacturing high-quality pedal bicycles for many years, but now further solidified by its success in developing and marketing multiple models of innovative electric bicycles that can be easily ordered online and shipped throughout the US.

When the Precedence Present e-bike debuted, it became an instant hit, earning its place as my top choice for daily use among premium e-bikes. I personally rationalized that after reviewing the bike, I didn’t want to reship it, so the company kindly allowed me to buy it from them at a significantly reduced used price. That’s how exceptional the bike was – I simply couldn’t get enough of it. Now that we’re receiving our initial impressions of the Precedence Present Plus with its latest enhancements, it’s clear that this iteration has surpassed all previous versions in terms of quality and performance.

With the rise of e-bikes as a viable means of transportation, businesses are recognizing the benefits of providing this eco-conscious alternative to commuters. Not only does it reduce carbon emissions, but it also promotes physical activity and boosts morale.

With a chance to secure early access to the bike, I’m expecting a comprehensive written analysis soon, possibly even before you’ve seen my accompanying video review is available.

The e-bike’s initial enhancements include a revamped throttle system, which builds upon the existing torque sensor-based pedal assist, allowing riders to seamlessly transition between gentle pedaling and effortless throttle control. Can this battery power an e-bike for up to 75 miles (120 km) on assisted pedalling, offering a substantial 44% increase in capacity and providing a maximum potential of 720Wh?

Ultimately, riders reaping the advantages of the electric bicycle’s high velocity of 28 mph won’t experience significant variations, but the substantial battery capacity will still likely cover most commutes effortlessly.

With its innovative push-button launch mechanism, the lockable battery offers effortless removal while providing enhanced safety and reassurance through its UL2271 certification. The e-bike boasts UL certification, satisfying the standards set forth by UL 2849, a comprehensive benchmark encompassing the entire electric-powered bicycle, including its motor, controller, wiring, and other components.

This brand-new body features an updated, streamlined battery shell, and incorporates a fresh 68.5-degree head tube angle, designed to provide enhanced stability and handling, especially on challenging roads or rough terrain. With the introduction of new handlebars featuring a 17-degree back sweep and 20mm rise, riders can now enjoy improved ergonomics and a more natural, comfortable grip. Additionally, these handles are fully adjustable, allowing riders to tailor the angle and height to their preferred riding position.

Upgraded alloy platform pedals boast a sleeker design and feature an additional high-quality contact point, elevating overall performance. With the updated motor firmware, riders can enjoy enhanced performance, including faster acceleration and more effortless climbing at low speeds, courtesy of the mid-drive motor’s impressive 140 Nm of torque.

While the bike’s numerous updates garner attention, its unaltered components and impressive efficiency statistics remain equally noteworthy. The Present Plus boasts a Gates Carbon CDX belt drive, ensuring minimal maintenance requirements while delivering quiet and crystal-clear performance. The motor’s 500W energy rating, coupled with its impressive torque, enables swift acceleration and exceptional hill-climbing capabilities. With its dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes equipped with electrical cut-off sensors, the Present Plus ensures seamless braking performance, providing equal measures of ‘stop’ and ‘go’, keeping riders firmly in control at all times.

The choice between two transmissions can be a crucial decision for any vehicle enthusiast. While the Shimano Nexus 5-speed model offers a rapid and uncomplicated 5-gear internal hub, the Enviolo CVT Heavy Duty enables seamless, stepless shifting, allowing cyclists to precisely select their desired gear ratio. The Shimano Nexus 5-speed model of the present Plus is priced at a competitive US$3,299, while the Enviolo CVT model commands a premium at US$3,499. The bicycle can be shipped directly to the rider’s home for an in-home consultation, or delivered to a local bike shop for a more experienced fitting.

The bike also features comprehensive lighting, including an impressive 600-lumen front headlight, LED lights at both the entrance and rear, as well as composite fenders that provide additional protection from the elements. Additionally, it comes equipped with braze-ons for mounting racks and other accessories at both the front and rear, ensuring a secure and adaptable design. For added durability, the bike boasts thru-axles throughout its construction.

Electrek’s Take

While these costs place the Present Plus above the financial variances of typical electrical bikes, they remain significantly below those of most premium e-bike manufacturers. Despite this, the bike share’s offerings are more akin to those of high-end electric bicycles, as it enters the market during a period when several premium brands have announced their withdrawal from the US market.

While many e-bikes on the market cater to budget-conscious consumers, the pioneering Priority Present model finally convinced me to splurge on a high-end electric bike. And the distinction is .

While a stable, low-maintenance e-bike has its benefits, those who rely on theirs regularly or seek a hassle-free ride may find that investing in a higher-end model makes a substantial difference. With its innovative design featuring a durable belt drive, reliable hydraulic brakes, and efficient internally geared rear hubs, this e-bike boasts an impressively low maintenance profile, with virtually no need for repairs. Regularly inspect and maintain your vehicle’s tires, ensuring optimal performance and longevity until the need for new brake pads or tires arises. For individuals like myself who crave simplicity, this is an alluring aspect – no need to worry about frequent maintenance. A well-maintained bike with all components in working order, free from signs of wear and tear: clean derailleur mechanisms, secure brake levers, and a rust-free, lubricated chain that doesn’t leave unsightly stains on your clothes when you lift it?

The mid-drive motor, equipped with a precise torque sensor, provides effortless pedal assist and comfort, while the included throttle enables flexible power options – whether you’re conserving energy or enjoying a guilt-free boost at no extra cost. Here’s a great reason to trust this brand: a reliable bike store stands firmly behind its products. I’m pleased to see a significant upgrade in the Precedence Present Plus, with a notable absence of added costs. While premium e-bikes may not be feasible for everyone’s budget, for those who can invest in them, the significant difference lies in the enhanced quality of the ride and prolonged lifespan of the vehicle.
