Earlier this month, Jaguar publicly revealed a groundbreaking new prototype for its inaugural all-electric vehicle, the I-PACE, at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show.
The British automaker has unveiled its prototype on London’s streets for the first time, accompanied by a gallery of images showcasing the new design, which features significantly toned-down “electrifying” styling cues.
Although the original I-PACE design was already well-established, the latest prototype’s “Tron-like” blue accents, first seen in November, have been refined to give it an even more production-ready appearance.
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, observed that
“The suggestions for the I-PACE project have been truly impressive.” By rewriting the traditional rules, we’ve conceived an automobile that seamlessly combines supercar-inspired aesthetics, sports car-like performance, and spacious SUV capacity within a single, groundbreaking electric package. The interest in our inaugural electric vehicle has surpassed all predictions, leaving many people astonished. Driving the concept into reality on the streets is pivotal for the design team to effectively test and refine their vision. The significance of situating an automobile in its natural environment lies in its ability to blend seamlessly with the world around it. When viewed alongside other cars on the road, the I-PACE’s striking design and precise proportions truly come into their own, revealing a unique visual identity that sets it apart from its competitors. The I-PACE concept embodies cutting-edge technological innovations in battery-electric vehicle design. The dawn of a new era in automotive innovation has finally arrived.
According to our previous reports, the I-PACE features a 90-kilowatt-hour battery pack, boasting a range of over 500 kilometers as rated by the New European Driving Cycle. The automaker has officially substantiated that its electric vehicle boasts an estimated range of approximately 220 miles on standardized Environmental Protection Agency testing routes.
Currently, they’re exclusively focusing on 50 kW DC rapid charging, a pace that hardly qualifies as “rapid”. Hopefully, a breakthrough will occur sooner rather than later, transforming the automotive industry before the first car hits the production line.
Jaguar has announced plans to unveil its first fully electric vehicle in late 2017, with a commitment to bring it to market during the second half of 2018.
