One month following its launch, the Deepal S05 has garnered an impressive 21,730 pre-orders for its electric and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants. The challenge currently facing the Deepal model, owned by Changan, is fulfilling orders for its vehicles.
Prior to its release, reports emerged that the S05 had generated over 10,000 pre-orders within a mere ten-day window since becoming available on the market. By October, a total of 27,862 Deepal deliveries had been completed. When the model is prepared to accurately translate gross sales into tangible deliveries, November is poised to surpass its previous sales record with a significant gain.
Gross sales of the Deepal S05 began on October 20, with deliveries commencing simultaneously. Currently, six models of automobiles are available for purchase, with four being fully electric variants and the remaining two hybrid electric vehicles (EREV). Priced between $16,900 and $21,100, the costs range from 119,900 yuan to 149,900 yuan. In a departure from expectations, the EREV variants surprisingly command higher prices rather than serving as budget-friendly options; indeed, they are pricier than their equivalent EV counterparts, with the most expensive model, the 200 Extreme EREV, boasting a substantial tag of 149,900 yuan (approximately 21,100 USD).
The Deepal S05’s dimensions are impressive: measuring 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm. Five vibrant colours are available for customers to choose from. Huawei’s xPixels-equipped intelligent headlights can generate a stunning 120-inch display projection effect.
The Deepal 4K smart gimbal camera boasts 64GB storage capacity, accommodating approximately 21,000 images or 12 hours of footage. Options include a premium audio package boasting a 14-speaker sound system and a panoramic sunroof.
The interior is available in three colours: vibrant orange, calming blue, and sophisticated grey. With the S05 release, Deepal transitioned to a unified 15.4-inch 2.5K management display hub. The device is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, and it relies on Deepal OS 3.0 for its operating system. While the automobile features a distinctive D-shaped steering wheel, it’s notable that there is no traditional instrument cluster; instead, drivers are treated to an innovative augmented reality head-up display.
The mid-console features a dual-layer design, accompanied by a 13-litre temperature-insulated storage container. There are an additional 35 storage areas throughout the automobile. Despite its compact size, the EV model boasts an impressive 159-liter trunk space. The trunk space expands significantly in the electric vehicle (EV), boasting a capacity of 651 litres, whereas its extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) counterpart is limited to 464 litres.
The electric vehicle’s powertrain is driven by a potent 175 kilowatt electrical motor, capable of delivering a maximum torque of 320 Newton-meters. The e-vehicle features a robust 56.12 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery pack, perfectly suited for its CLTC range of an impressive 510 kilometers.
While the EREV’s powertrain is distinct from that of the PHEV, its 1.5-liter naturally aspirated JL469Q1 engine still manages to deliver an impressive 72 kW maximum output. Powering the vehicle is a high-performance 160 kW electric motor that generates substantial torque of 320 Nm. The EREV boasts a 27.28-kilowatt-hour battery pack, enabling a 200-kilometer all-electric range and an impressive total range of 1,234 kilometers.
