A brand-new, all-electric Toyota model made its global debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show this week. Toyota’s bZ7 concept is a sleek, electric sedan, potentially utilizing BYD batteries and motors in the Chinese market.
Introducing the revolutionary Toyota bZ7 Electric Vehicle Concept
As the Chinese market continues to evolve, Toyota struggles to maintain its footing against domestic players like BYD that are gaining momentum.
Although Toyota currently only offers one all-electric model, the bZ4X SUV, on a global scale, it is significantly increasing its electric vehicle offerings in China.
On Wednesday, Toyota revealed its latest model, the bZ7, which is expected to hit the market in China next year.
Toyota’s modern design language is elegantly embodied in its sleek, streamlined profile. The Toyota bZ7’s sleek aesthetic is enhanced by slim LED headlights and a minimalist exterior design element that spans across the vehicle’s entrance, echoing the modern styling cues introduced in the latest Prius models.
The electric sedan bears a striking resemblance to the Comfy House concept unveiled at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show. According to their existing joint venture, GAC Toyota, a Chinese-language partnership with Toyota, will manufacture the newly developed electric vehicle.
GAC Toyota currently offers two models: the bZ4X (Bozhi 4X) and bZ3X. Toyota’s joint venture partner in China, FAW Toyota, produces the bZ3 and BZ4X models. Following its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show, FAW plans to roll out the bZ3C in the coming months.
The upcoming Toyota bZ7 sedan is expected to closely follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the BYD Blade-based bZ3, which leveraged high-capacity BYD Blade batteries and efficient electric motors to deliver an exceptional driving experience.
The BYD Blade, available with two distinct battery options – 49.9 kWh and 65.3 kWh – offers a range of up to 382 miles (616 km), as certified by CLTC testing standards. The bottom Elite Professional model starts at around $24,000 (169,800 RMB), boasting up to 321 miles (517 km) of Certified Lasts Till Charge (CLTC) range.
Toyota is set to launch a new electric sedan that aims to compete with top-selling models in China’s market, including the BYD Han and Xiaomi SU7.
Nissan revealed its latest addition to the electric vehicle family, the N7, at the Guangzhou Auto Show in Japan. Is the newly launched electric vehicle (EV) the inaugural model in Nissan’s next generation of cars, designed to revitalize its reputation? The new product will be released in the spring of next year.
While Nissan touts the N7 as a game-changer for China’s electric sedan market, Toyota is quietly preparing to launch its own bZ7 model in 2025, potentially challenging Nissan’s claim to be the benchmark.
