All-electric Toyota bZ7 concept debuts in China, likely equipped with BYD powertrain

Toyota has revealed another concept vehicle in its growing bZ series in China on November 15. Here’s a revised version of the text:

The bZ7, a pure electric C-class sedan, is expected to enter production within the next 12 months, posing a competitive threat to models like the Xiaomi SU7, BYD Han, and Luxeed S7.

The automotive’s prospects appear to be more suited for the Chinese market, making it a likely China-only sedan. In China, Toyota’s electrified vehicle portfolio is expanding rapidly, starting with the bZ3 sedan, a standalone model not seen elsewhere globally, unlike the bZ4X, which remains the only purely electric Toyota outside of the country.

Interestingly, the BYD concept bears striking resemblance to the Snug House idea unveiled at the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show, only a year after its debut. The automotive will reportedly be manufactured by the GAC Toyota joint venture and is likely to enter the market for sales in 2025.

The B7 has a sleek, modern coupe-inspired design. At the entrance, a translucent façade may be illuminated from within by subtle lighting effects. The rear design features a sleek integration of a taillight connection.

It’s widely acknowledged internally that the vehicle in question is referred to as the Venture 630D. Could the GAC Group deliberate and approve a proposal for the GAC Toyota Venture 630D? The committee has officially approved moving forward with the project, accompanied by a substantial allocation of 1.588 billion yuan (approximately 218 million USD) in full funding. GAC Toyota had previously planned to introduce a medium-to-large-sized electric sedan, dubbed the Snug House, by year’s end. It’s widely speculated that the BZ7, Snug House, and Venture 630D models are in fact one and the same vehicle.

The Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) Toyota joint venture markets the bZ3X and bZ4X, also known as the Bozhi 4X. The FAW-Toyota joint venture, also known as the bZ3 and bZ4X, offers an alternative to traditional vehicles. The Baojun BZ3C is expected to join the FAW (First Automobile Works) lineup in the coming months, following its latest appearance in the MIIT’s (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) listings in September. Although the bZ3X is already featured on Toyota’s website model webpage, its delivery won’t commence until March.

The bZ3X and bZ3C electric vehicles made their debut at the Beijing Auto Show, building upon concepts showcased at the Shanghai Show in 2023. Assuming all goes according to plan, the bZ7 is expected to hit the market during the summer of 2025.

In China, Toyota’s electric options for its bZ3 sedan have heavily depended on collaboration with BYD to develop the powertrain, combining both BYD’s blade battery technology and its electric motors. It’s highly likely this additional functionality will also apply to the bZ3C, with little doubt the bZ7 would follow suit.

The BYD B7 was not the only all-electric, China-only model unveiled by a Japanese automaker at the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show; the Nissan N7 sedan also made its debut.
