The Luxeed R7, a product of the Concord Clever Mobility Alliance (CCMA) between Chery and Huawei, has emerged as a formidable competitor in the electric coupe SUV market. Since its inception, the R7 has garnered a remarkable 38,000-plus non-refundable pre-orders. The R7 is Luxeed’s second launch after the successful debut of its S7 sedan. Here’s our take on the automotive sector: The flagship dual-motor variant boasts an impressive 365 kilowatts of power, allowing it to sprint from standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in a remarkably swift 3.9 seconds.

The Luxeed R7 mirrors the sleek, glossy design of its all-electric S7 counterpart, boasting a closed entrance finish, slender LED headlights connected by a subtle strip, a low beltline, and a raked roofline that seamlessly integrates with the overall aesthetic. The sleek design features a distinctive retractable door handle, gleaming bumpers, and an aerodynamic ducktail spoiler that elevates the overall aesthetic of the vehicle. The EREV variant is characterised by a distinctive air intake situated within the front bumper’s design. Our test drive of the car took a closer look at its autonomous features, which include an optional LiDAR sensor mounted discreetly on the roof.

With its innovative “One-Field” design, the vehicle achieves an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.219, further solidifying its position as a leader in terms of aerodynamics. With dimensions of 4,956 mm in length, 1,981 mm in width, and 1,634 mm at its peak, the R7 EREV’s compact footprint is defined by a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, complemented by overhangs measuring 914 mm from the entrance and 1,092 mm from the rear. The vehicle offers a range of strategic approaches and departure angles across 18 distinct levels, while riding confidently on 21-inch wheels. Its curb weight is approximately 2,298 kilograms, with a corresponding gross vehicle weight of roughly 2,735 kilograms.

The R7 features Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a 15.6-inch central management display screen. The interior features a soothing white sand and apricot-hued aesthetic.

The R7 stands out for its exceptional rear passenger comfort, boasting seats equipped with upgraded foam cushioning and adjustable backrests spanning a range of 10 degrees, from 27° to 37°. The cabin’s ambiance is transformed by the mixed use of a panoramic sunroof, which features a deployable sunshade; this allows for an open feel while still shielding occupants from intense daylight. With thoughtful inclusions mirroring the functionality of retractable storage compartments in the rear and a sophisticated multi-tiered trunk design, the R7 is exceptionally practical for everyday family excursions or extended road trips.

With its spacious cargo area boasting a generous 837 litres that expands to an impressive 2,130 litres when the rear seats are folded, this vehicle offers unparalleled versatility and practicality.

With precision-guided handling, the R7 navigates urban curves with unwavering confidence. The agency-provided chassis and well-designed suspension work in harmony to deliver exceptional agility, providing a driving experience that’s both exhilarating and engaging for those seeking a more dynamic ride. Despite its unique design, the steering column may take some time to get accustomed to, especially during tight turns and parking situations.

The Luxeed R7 seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology, luxurious comfort, and functionality into one sleek and modern package, redefining the electric SUV experience. Sophisticated driving assistance, intuitive features, and seamless passenger accommodations converge to deliver a cultured and adaptive driving experience.

The Luxeed R7 prioritises passenger comfort with a cutting-edge air suspension system that leverages advanced laser scanning technology to precisely manage ride height, ensuring a smooth and seamless driving experience. The advanced shock-absorbing system effectively reduces vibrations and optimizes ride quality for an unparalleled driving experience? The vehicle’s advanced technology enables smooth acceleration and braking, significantly reducing the risk of motion sickness for a more comfortable driving experience?

The R7 features Huawei’s advanced ADS 3.0 technology, providing a mature and responsive autonomous driving experience. The system adeptly handled a plethora of complexities, much like seamlessly shifting gears between congested side roads, traversing complex construction sites, and effortlessly gliding across broad freeways. Significantly, its decision-making process parallels human driving behavior, striking a delicate balance between safety and promptness.

In densely populated urban environments, the R7 proactively adapted its navigation to mirror current road conditions, subtly adjusting its position near the centerline to effectively sidestep any hazards lurking along the roadside. On slick roads, the vehicle’s advanced lidar technology seamlessly mapped the surroundings, dynamically fine-tuning its speed to maintain traction without applying excessive brakes.

With its steadfast learning mechanism, the ADS 3.0 system’s effectiveness naturally increases with use, effortlessly transforming the driving experience into an intuitive and seamless one.

Its advanced 800V architecture enables lightning-quick charging, allowing for an impressive 400km range in just 15 minutes.

The Luxeed R7 stands out for its exceptional expertise, opulent interior, and dynamic energy efficiency, solidifying its position as a formidable force in the electric coupe SUV segment.

Precise control over refined autonomous driving features, combined with a passenger-centric design, delivers a premium and adaptable driving experience. Although the innovative design of the steering column may necessitate a brief adaptation period for certain drivers, its impact on the vehicle’s overall agility during high-energy maneuvers is largely negligible due to the modest influence of its curb weight. Despite some minor shortcomings, the R7’s rapid recharging capabilities, innovative features, and thoughtful balance between form and function ultimately drive its triumph.
