At the Guangzhou Auto Present, Denza announced that its luxurious sedan, the Denza Z9, will commence deliveries in early December. Autos have started rolling onto dealership lots across the country. Can drive access be expected to become available by the end of this month?
The Denza Z9 was officially launched at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show. The automaker’s starting price for the plug-in hybrid model is 334,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately 46,200 USD, while the pure electric model has a starting price of 354,800 yuan, or roughly 49,000 USD.
Extra on the Denza Z9

The Denza Z9’s exterior design mirrors its high-performance counterpart, the Denza Z9 GT, featuring sleek glossy headlights complemented by subtle LED strips that add a touch of sophistication. The entrance grille showcases a sleek black mesh air intake, accompanied by laser sensors strategically placed on each side. The plug-in hybrid variant boasts a dynamic and active grille situated above the rear license plate.
The Z9’s exterior design takes a distinctly sedate approach, featuring a sleek three-box silhouette, enhanced by larger rear triangular windows and an absence of black trim along its flanks, setting it apart from its sportier counterpart, the Z9 GT. The rear design features hourglass-shaped taillights that illuminate the Denza brand, complemented by a body-colored rear bumper and a powered spoiler that adds a touch of sophistication.
The plug-in hybrid model boasts dimensions of 5235mm in length, 1990mm in width, and 1500mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3125mm. The pure electric model stands just 5220 millimeters tall.

The entrance cabin closely follows the Z9 GT’s design, featuring a 13.2-inch all-digital instrument cluster, an expansive 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a secondary 13.2-inch entertainment display for the front passenger, and a massive 50-inch heads-up display that provides vital information in the driver’s line of sight. The gear shifter’s upgrade to a column-style design liberates space within the heart of the console, creating a covered storage compartment, cup holders, and a central armrest that provides ample room for convenience. Two wireless, 50-watt Wi-Fi-enabled phone charging pads remain commonplace.
The rear cabin features significant enhancements, including eight-way power-adjustable seats, two-way guiding adjustable headrests, electrically operated leg rests, and seat cushions that can slide forward by 65 millimetres and recline up to 10 degrees. The automobile can be equipped with the same premium features found in the Z9 GT, including a crab-walking mode that enables diagonal movement, compass-style U-turns, and advanced autonomous parking capabilities.

The Denza Z9 showcases both its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric variations.
- PHEV model: Equipped with a 2.0T powertrain, comprising an entrance motor and two rear motors for enhanced propulsion.
- The 2.0T engine boasts an impressive maximum output of 152 kilowatts.
- Main Electric Motor: Peak power up to 200 kilowatts.
- Two all-wheel drive electric motors: Each one boasting a maximum output of 240 kilowatts.
- Battery: A lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) unit boasting a Class-Leading Thermal Cycle (CLTC) rating of 201 kilometers, powered by an impressive 38.5 kilowatt-hours.
- Pure Electrical Model:
- Entrance Motor: Maximum Output of 230 kW
- Two rear-mounted electric motors: Each capable of delivering up to 240 kilowatts of power.
- Battery: High-capacity 100 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery with an impressive certified low temperature cycle (CLTC) electric range of approximately 630 kilometres.
The Denza Z9 is poised to rival other luxury electric vehicles (NEVs), including the Avatr 12 and the Nio ET7, in a competitive market segment. While many competitors focus exclusively on offering purely electric powertrains. As China increasingly recognizes the value of hybrid powertrains, the Z9 is poised to carve out a niche as a luxurious hybrid sedan within Denza’s portfolio and above the BYD brand’s offerings.
