Hongqi unveiled its new Tiangong 08 all-electric five-seat SUV, built on its Tiangong pure electric platform and Jiuzhang intelligent platform, on November 12. The Tiangong T08 will make its global debut as the Hongqi EHS7. The all-new electric vehicle started taking pre-orders in Europe for a price tag of €53,999, roughly equivalent to $59,000 USD.
The automaker will debut its new vehicle for pre-sale at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, scheduled to take place from November 15th, with a formal launch planned for mid-December. A model for a battery substitute will also become available.
Tiangong is Hongqi’s innovative modular pure electric platform, adaptable to sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and crossovers. This cutting-edge technology features Hongqi’s pioneering low-temperature battery pack, boasting a remarkable 98% capacity retention at -10°C, alongside rapid charging capabilities that can recharge up to 80% in just five minutes, depending on the specific model. By 2026, Hongqi intends to debut a premium midsize electric SUV and a midsize luxury electric sedan built upon the Tiangong platform.
The Hong Qi brand’s innovative Clever Platform prioritizes intelligent cockpits and driving experiences, fueled by the iconic “Hongqi No. 1”? 1” automotive-grade chip. The innovative Sinan Clever Driving system, integrated into Jiuzhang’s platform, elevates the city’s NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) features by providing enhanced driving assistance and intelligent parking capabilities.
The Hongqi Tiangong 08 is expected to offer both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options. The RWD trim boasts a maximum output of 253 kW (339 horsepower), while its AWD counterpart features a front electric motor with a power rating of 202 kW (271 horsepower). The maximum speed recorded is approximately 320 kilometers per hour. The electric vehicle will offer customers a choice between two high-performance battery packs: a ternary lithium-ion option for enhanced range and speed, or a reliable lithium-iron-phosphate alternative for those prioritizing safety and longevity. The ternary lithium-ion battery pack, boasting an impressive 111 kWh capacity, is expected to enable rear-wheel drive (RWD) vehicles to travel up to 730 kilometers on a single charge, while all-wheel drive (AWD) variants can achieve approximately 680 kilometers, both estimates based on the Chinese Automotive Technology Research Centre’s (CATRC) CLTC test cycle. The capabilities and varying knowledge of the lithium-iron-phosphate battery model have yet to be thoroughly introduced at present. The Chinese state-owned automaker BYD is poised to unveil a battery-free version of its electric vehicle, the Hongqi Tiangong 08.
Within the cockpit, a flat-bottomed steering wheel is situated alongside an integrated display comprising an LCD instrument panel and a central management display, accompanied by a dual-focal augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) that can project driving and navigation data within a visible range of 4 meters and 7.5 meters respectively. The traditional physical door handle located on the door trim has been replaced and upgraded to a push-button design. Cell phones can now charge wirelessly through Wi-Fi technology, conveniently located in the center console. The immersive audio experience originates from Dolby Atmos. Clever vocal interplay can also be current.
Tune in carefully for further updates!
