IM Motors, a tripartite partnership between SAIC Motor Company, Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, and Alibaba Group, debuted the L6 electric sedan series in May, featuring the flagship L6 Max Lightyear Edition. Priced at ¥345,900, the Lightyear Version distinguishes itself through its cutting-edge battery technology. The vehicle is equipped with a 900V solid-state battery, dubbed the “Lightyear,” which enables rapid charging capabilities.

The Lightyear battery, engineered by Suzhou Qingdao New Vitality Expertise Co., Ltd., boasts a cutting-edge design featuring zero-degree thermal unfolding protection – a pioneering technology aimed at precluding thermal runaway occurrences while ensuring top-tier safety standards. The battery configuration enables a projected range of up to approximately 1,000 kilometers (on the Chinese Laboratory Test Cycle), in the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant. What’s more, the battery supports an impressive peak charging rate of 400 kilowatts, allowing the vehicle to replenish its range by approximately 400 kilometers within just around 12 minutes. The Lyriq 6 Max Lightyear Edition has been listed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), paving the way for its market debut.

United Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. Huayu Automotive Electrical Systems Co., Ltd. The Dual-Motor System of the L6 Max Lightyear Version boasts a remarkable combination of power and efficiency, featuring two electric motors that generate an impressive total output of 540 kW (190 kW + 350 kW). In 2016, Suzhou Qingdao New Vitality Expertise, based in Kunshan, Suzhou, took a significant leap forward by setting up a large-scale production line for semi-solid-state batteries, solidifying its position as a leader in the industrialization of this technology in China. The corporation was founded by a team led by Professor Nan Cewen from Tsinghua University.

The regulatory approval of the L6 Max Lightyear Version underscores IM Motors’ commitment to harmonizing advanced high-speed charging capabilities with cutting-edge battery technologies. The car’s inclusion on the MIIT’s authorized product listing signifies compliance with key regulatory standards, marking a significant step towards commercialization and eventual market launch. As IM Motors navigates a competitive electric vehicle market, it’s prioritizing enhanced battery safety and efficiency through its innovative semi-solid-state battery technology in the Lightyear Edition.
