GAC Aion UT EV hatchback exposed by regulator a week before Guangzhou debut

Prior to its official unveiling at the Guangzhou Auto Show, regulators unexpectedly revealed more about the new Aion UT from GAC a week early. While the automotive industry has made significant strides, a key consideration is that its size more closely resembles a Volkswagen ID.3 than a BYD Dolphin.

While the Ministry of Business and Information Technology (MIIT) provides three distinct entries, upon closer examination, there appears to be little discernible difference between them. The all-new GAC Aion electric hatchback boasts dimensions of 4,270mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2,750mm. The vehicle’s weight is specified as either 1510 or 1540 kilograms, with buyers offered a choice of 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels for added customization.

The Aion UT is equipped with a TZ160XYD3A02 everlasting magnet synchronous motor, boasting a maximum power output of 100 kilowatts. The electric vehicle will utilize lithium iron phosphate batteries, with a top speed of 150 km/h.

Earlier footage had demonstrated a silver prototype, whereas the newly released MIIT image reveals an emerald green design. The sleek design boasts a distinctive split-tone aesthetic, featuring a striking combination of metallic silver and matte black above the window line.

The Unix Time-Sharing System (UT) was previously referred to by its internal codename, AY2.

The second mannequin to emerge from the brand’s all-electric lineup is a global model, following the second-generation Aion V.

With itemized data now declared, there is a possibility that pre-sales may commence as early as the Guangzhou event or at least by year-end. European gross sales of GAC’s models are forecasted to commence in 2025, with the automotive sector set to play a vital role in boosting the company’s international sales figures.
