Jaguar launches an all-electric race series using new I-Pace with Formula E

Today, Jaguar and Formula E announced a groundbreaking new partnership, unveiling an innovative all-electric racing series that will run concurrently with the Formula E championship.

The Jaguar I-PACE, a pioneering all-electric vehicle, is set to power the forthcoming collection.

Dubbed “The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY”, this electric racing series is structured around an ‘Arrive and Drive’ format, accommodating up to 20 drivers per event, plus a featured VIP driver at each location.

By next year’s primary season, a significant shift is anticipated to occur: for the first time in history, there will be 10 races taking place simultaneously on the same city circuit weekends as those in Formula E.

Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Motorsport Network’s Components E, commented on the significant development.

Jaguar’s arrival in Components E and its subsequent advocacy for electric street racing have been a most welcome development. We’re thrilled to announce that alongside the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team’s continued competition on the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship grid, our event schedule for Season 5 will feature an exciting new support programme. The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY promises to provide added excitement for spectators during downtime, serving as a testament to the rapid progress in battery technology and electrifying performance. I’m thrilled at the prospect of Jaguar allowing me to hand over my racing gear – a bespoke suit and helmet, no less – and maybe even get to take the driver’s seat for a spin!

Jaguar asserts that the championship’s exposure will facilitate a successful launch of its upcoming electric SUV model, the I-PACE, scheduled for release next year.

The Jaguar I-PACE is a sports utility vehicle equipped with a 90-kilowatt-hour battery pack, boasting an impressive range of over 500 kilometers on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) rating. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle is capable of achieving a range of approximately 220 miles when tested using EPA standard cycles.

Ford has unveiled mere glimpses of its upcoming I-Tempo racing variant.

We’re palpably enthusiastic about Jaguar’s inaugural foray into the all-electric car market with the I-Tempo. The car’s design has garnered widespread acclaim, and with its impressive specifications, it is poised to establish a strong presence in the sport utility vehicle market segment.

The launch of a brand-new racing collection promises to be an exciting opportunity to display the vehicle’s capabilities.

While Components E’s success was undeniable, the reality that drivers often adjusted their vehicles mid-race did little to alleviate concerns surrounding electric vehicle technology and its perceived limitations.

Jaguar’s typical racing event duration is 30 minutes, which shouldn’t pose an issue as they often accommodate shorter schedules unless it’s their main competition.

Jaguar seems to have delivered a decisive blow by beating Electric GT to the punch. The Electric Racing Championship aimed to become the premier all-electric racing series, featuring production-based electric vehicles – specifically, the Tesla Model S P100D, renowned as the “fastest production car on earth.”

Despite initial claims that they would debut this year, there’s been minimal buzz surrounding them since their test vehicle crashed.

Jaguar may pioneer a groundbreaking venture in electric motorsports with its announcement of becoming the “world’s first all-electric global racing series for production-based vehicles,” potentially revolutionizing the industry.
