Tesla plans mini Oasis Supercharger with solar and batteries near its giant project

Tesla is intensifying its efforts behind the innovative “Oasis” Supercharger concept, a scaled-up charging infrastructure that harnesses the power of solar energy and incorporates a microgrid battery system to create self-sustaining hubs.

Despite initial reservations, this latest iteration demonstrates notable improvements in fortitude.

Last month, Tesla unveiled its “Mission Oasis” – an ambitious project set to become one of the automaker’s largest Supercharger stations, featuring multiple pull-through stalls for vans and trailers. However, the truly innovative aspect is a substantial solar array and battery system that enables the charging station to operate largely off-grid.

Despite CEO Elon Musk’s long-standing goal since 2016 to develop a self-sufficient Supercharger network powered primarily by photovoltaic panels and battery storage, Tesla remains far from achieving this vision on a large scale.

Tesla’s latest move has sparked renewed optimism that its ambitious Undertaking Oasis concept might finally take shape, with whispers of a scaled-down version on the horizon.

According to Marco RP, the designated tracker of Supercharger initiatives, a submission has been made for a newly constructed building at the Coalinga, California station.

The mission lies approximately 50 miles north of Undertaking Oasis, situated conveniently along Interstate 5, midway between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.

We dub it a “mini Oasis” not because it has fewer charging stations than its namesake; rather, it boasts an identical number of deliberately designed stalls – 168 – but lacks the solar and battery infrastructure necessary for off-grid operation.

Oasis boasts 11 megawatts (MW) of intentional solar energy and 39 megawatt-hours (MWh) of vital storage capacity.

The newly implemented mission in Coalinga features a modest deployment of photovoltaic energy, generating less than one megawatt, alongside a substantial 15.5 megawatt-hours of energy storage capacity. In the Oasis scenario, Tesla’s microgrid seamlessly integrates with the broader grid infrastructure, with the added benefit that the grid now amplifies the capabilities of Tesla’s microgrid for enhanced connectivity.

If Tesla decides to roll out its photovoltaic array and energy storage solution at the new facility.

The newly constructed station features amenities including restrooms, a common addition found at Tesla’s more extensive charging hubs.
