The South Korean automotive giant is poised to lead the charge in the quest for a sustainable tomorrow. South Korean automaker Hyundai has secured its most significant renewable energy supply agreement to date, marking a major milestone for the company’s sustainability efforts. The massive battery pack provides ample power to fully charge the Hyundai IONIQ 5’s electric motor an astonishing seven million times.

On Wednesday, Hyundai Motor Firm introduced a brand new renewable power provide contract with Hyundai Engineering & Development, SK E&S, GS E&R, and Enlighten.

Through a pioneering brand-new energy purchase agreement, Hyundai is set to secure 610 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy annually for the next two decades, cementing its position as the largest in South Korea.

Hyundai has announced that its IONIQ 5 model can be fully charged from scratch a staggering 7 million times using its 84-kilowatt-hour battery pack, thanks to sufficient electrical energy supply. As part of its ambitious sustainability initiatives, Hyundai anticipates reducing its carbon footprint by approximately 5.6 million tons of greenhouse gases.

A Hyundai Motor Firm spokesperson announced that they aim to develop a diverse renewable energy portfolio, accelerate carbon reduction through expansion of solar energy technology services, and transform 100% of the electricity used at all their domestic and international business sites to renewable energy by 2045.

The all-new 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5?

Hyundai has recently settled on a plan to accelerate its transition to 100% renewable power use, both domestically and internationally.

Hyundai has announced its intention to gradually develop solar energy solutions in Korea, aiming to ensure a sustainable supply for the future.

By 2024, Hyundai has successfully implemented a significant milestone in its sustainable efforts by building 20 megawatts of solar energy technology across its Korean community. The following year, the company will expand by adding an additional 11MW to its Ulsan facility, where it will complete development of its first dedicated EV plant.

As Hyundai has successfully transitioned its Czech and Indonesian facilities to 100% renewable energy, the company is now poised to accelerate its global efforts towards a sustainable future. By next year, the company intends to source 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable energy suppliers through power purchase agreements (PPAs) at its facilities in the United States, India, and Turkey.

Hyundai’s corporate spokesperson announced that the company will take proactive steps towards mitigating the effects of climate change, committing to provide customers with vehicles manufactured using environmentally friendly electricity.

Hyundai has launched production at its state-of-the-art Metaplant America facility in Georgia, marking a significant milestone for the automaker. The upgraded 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is now leaving the production line and moving towards its delivery schedule later this year. The Model 3 now offers additional features that include extra options for varying styles, a glossy new design, and an NACS port for seamless charging at Tesla’s Supercharger network.
