Suzuki has finally unveiled its inaugural all-electric vehicle, marking a significant milestone in the automaker’s push towards a more sustainable future. Suzuki premiered its revolutionary e-Vitara electric SUV on Monday in Europe, marking a significant milestone as it paves the way to potentially integrating this innovative technology into Toyota’s fleet.

As the automotive industry transitions towards electrification, Toyota and Suzuki are forging a partnership to accelerate their pace. Toyota and Suzuki formalized their partnership last month, outlining plans for the latter to supply the former with a novel global electric SUV.

The all-new SUV has been designed from the ground up as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), built upon a novel platform jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor.

Following the unveiling of the e-Vitara on Monday, Suzuki has provided a closer look at what’s in store. Suzuki’s latest electric vehicle draws inspiration from its eVX concept, unveiled at the Auto Expo in India last January.

Suzuki unveiled its innovative “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” concept, describing the electric SUV’s design as a harmonious blend of cutting-edge technology and energy. The EV is propelled by Suzuki’s new dedicated “HEARTECT-e” platform and powertrain, engineered to deliver a responsive and agile driving experience.

Suzuki’s latest powertrain features a cutting-edge combination of an eAxle, comprising an electric motor and inverter, paired with high-performance lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries.

The platform, specifically tailored to accommodate electric vehicles (EVs), provides ample interior space for comfortable passenger travel. The Suzuki’s electric SUV also features an all-wheel-drive ALLGRIP-e system, providing enhanced off-road prowess and improved fuel efficiency.

Suzuki’s President, Toshihiro Suzuki, has announced that the company will expand its battery-electric vehicle (BEV) lineup and develop mobility solutions tailored to the specific needs of different countries and regions.

At 4,275 millimeters in length, 1,800 millimeters wide, and 1,635 millimeters tall, with a wheelbase measuring 2,700 millimeters, the e-Vitara compares favorably to Kia’s new EV3 (4,300 millimeters long, 1,850 millimeters wide, and 1,560 millimeters tall, with a wheelbase of 2,680 millimeters).

Although the official driving range has yet to be announced, the electric SUV will initially be available with 49- and 61-kWh battery options. Suzuki announced in late January that its new electric vehicle concept is expected to offer a driving range of up to 342 miles (550 km).

Suzuki is set to commence construction of its new electric SUV at its Gujarat plant in India in spring 2025, with production also intended for Toyota. Gross sales are expected to commence in Europe, India, and Japan around summer season 2025.
