Last week, we reported that Jaguar unveiled two I-PACE prototypes at the Los Angeles Auto Show – a year after initially showcasing the vehicle at the same event.
Jaguar reveals details about its take a look programme, stating that it currently oversees more than 200 manufacturing prototypes ahead of its anticipated launch next year.
Jaguar’s Car Line Director, Ian Hoban, noted:
Following rigorous testing, Jaguar’s I-PACE has successfully logged over 1.5 million international test miles, solidifying its readiness for mass production; it can now confidently travel long distances on a single charge. Jaguar’s inaugural battery-electric vehicle is poised to set a new standard for affordability; our aim is to achieve a remarkable 0-80% charging time, making it an accessible and convenient option.
The company’s fast-charging capabilities remain primarily centered around a 50-kilowatt charging station, as per the official press statement.
The British automotive manufacturer has revealed a significant surge in interest for its inaugural electric vehicle, as thousands of prospective buyers pressed the “I need one” button on their website.
They extended invitations to a select few to join Jaguar’s engineers for behind-the-scenes test drives of their cutting-edge prototypes.
Ann Voyers from Pasadena, California was the first lucky winner to experience some exclusive ride opportunities.
Would the I-PACE’s range be sufficient to complete her favorite street route along California’s West Coast, spanning from Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard to Morro Bay in Central California?
The team created a compelling video that delves into the subject matter.
The Jaguar I-PACE, previously featured, is a sports utility vehicle equipped with a substantial 90 kWh battery pack, boasting an impressive NEDC-rated range of over 500 kilometres. The automaker has officially confirmed that its electric vehicle boasts an impressive range of approximately 220 miles when tested under EPA review protocols.
The vehicle successfully completed a 200-mile (322 km) road trip.
We’re genuinely enthused about the I-Tempo for several reasons.
Initially, the vehicle appears as a pleasant, ordinary automobile that just happens to be electrically powered. If rumors are to be believed, Jaguar’s new vehicle could have a considerable impact on the market by being more reasonably priced than initially thought, potentially shaking up the industry if true.
Unfortunately, the I-PACE’s sole reliance on 50 kW DC fast-charging, while current standard, falls short of expectations for a cutting-edge electric vehicle launched in 2018.
If so, hopefully they’re exclusively referencing the rate of charging when replenishing at high-power Level 3 chargers with a maximum capacity of 50 kilowatts, rather than the vehicle’s actual charging capabilities.
As details unfold over the next few months with Jaguar’s launch of its production model and opening of its order book, we’ll gain further insight.
The car is expected to enter production in the second half of 2018, making us even more enthusiastic about the I-Tempo, as it will be one of the pioneering electric vehicles designed ground-up electrically by legacy automotive manufacturers.
