By the third week of October, or week 42, China’s electric vehicle (EV) market displayed mixed signals. In the previous week, Tesla registrations surged 55%, while Xiaomi saw a moderate 20% increase, but BYD’s sales took a hit, plummeting 15%. Meanwhile, Nio’s numbers declined by 17%.

The 42nd week of 2024 took place from October 7 to October 13. Week 42 of 2023, a reference period for year-over-year comparisons, spanned October 16 to 22.

Li Auto publicly discloses its weekly gross sales figures, although these statistics are implicitly rooted in insurance registration data, without explicit acknowledgment. Chinese NEV market: Sales of new power autos, including battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and extended-range electric vehicles. While FCEVs do comprise part of the total, their sales figures are essentially negligible in China.

BYD recorded 89,600 new auto registrations, representing a significant 15.63% drop from the previous week’s total of 106,200. Notwithstanding, BYD’s registration numbers skyrocketed by a whopping 73.31% over the past year, with sales jumping from 51,700 units. As of the first half of October, BYD has recorded an impressive 263,400 auto registrations in China, with data up to October 20th inclusive.

Wuling, a subsidiary of SGMW, saw a significant surge in electric vehicle sales, with 19,400 units registered, representing a remarkable 106.63% year-over-year increase from the previous year’s figure of 9,400 models? The World of Warcraft’s comparability simply isn’t out there to match.

Telsa’s weekly sales surged by 55.29%, with 13,200 vehicles registered, a significant increase from the 8,500 units sold in the preceding week. In a 12-month period, Tesla’s vehicle registrations skyrocketed by an impressive 62.96%, surging to 13,200 units from its previous total of 8,100 models. As of October, cumulative registrations have reached 23,500.

Li Auto saw a 9.7% drop in new registrations, falling to 12,100 units in the latest week, down from 13,400 the previous week. Despite the recent decline, Li Auto’s registrations have seen a significant year-over-year surge of 34.44%, with a total of 9,000 models registered. As of October, a total of 34,200 registrations have been completed.

Aito recorded an impressive 22.54% surge in auto registrations, with 8,700 new models added to the tally, a marked increase from the preceding week’s 7,100 vehicles. Over the past 12 months, Aito’s registrations have skyrocketed by a staggering 210.71%, jumping from 2,800 models to an impressive figure. As of October, Aito has recorded a significant milestone with 20,400 autos registered on its platform.

Leapmotor reported a decline in registrations, with 8,000 units sold during the period, representing an 8.05% drop from the previous week’s total of 8,700 vehicles. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Leapmotor reported a remarkable 116.22% year-on-year surge in sales, with deliveries reaching 8,000 units over the past 12 months, up from approximately 3,700 vehicles sold during the same period last year. October’s complete registrations reached 20,200.

Last week, GAC Aion registered 6,300 units, a decline of 8.70% compared to the 6,900 models sold the preceding week. Over the past year, despite this, GAC Aion’s monthly sales plummeted by 30.77%, down to 6,300 models.

Xiaomi recorded a significant surge in its auto registrations, with 5,600 new units added to the fold – a notable 21.74% jump from the preceding week’s tally of 4,600 vehicles. Although 12-month-over-year data isn’t available, Xiaomi’s total registrations for October have surpassed 14,000.

Zeekr recorded a 5,200-vehicle registration drop, a 5.45% slide from the 5,500 autos registered the previous week. In a remarkable surge, Zeekr’s registrations skyrocketed 188.89% to reach 5,250 units in the given timeframe. October’s complete registrations reached 14,400.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng saw its auto registrations surge by 15.38%, with 4,500 vehicles sold in the latest period, compared to 3,900 units the previous week? In December alone, Xpeng’s registrations declined slightly by 4.26%, totaling approximately 4,700 units over the past year. Up to date, Xpeng has successfully registered over 11,200 vehicles in October.

Last week, Deepal logged 4,100 vehicle registrations, a decrease of 10.87% compared to the 4,600 models registered the previous week. Over the past 12 months, Deepal saw a significant surge in registrations, with a notable 10.81% increase from approximately 3,700 units. As of October, a total of 11,400 cumulative registrations have been recorded.

NIO reported a significant drop in sales, with 3,900 vehicles registered, representing a substantial 17.02% decrease from the previous week’s total of 4,700 models. Last month, Nio’s sales suffered an 11.36% year-on-year decline, with only 3,864 vehicles registered. As of October, the total number of completed registrations has reached 13,100.

The Onovo sub-brand is deliberately omitted from NIO’s model registration records. According to a report by CarNewsChina, Onvo has successfully registered 933 units of its all-new, standalone automobile, the L60 SUV. These new parts are straight from the 900 models of last week’s shipment?
