Tenways, a prominent budget-friendly electric bicycle manufacturer that has gained popularity in recent years, has revamped its popular lightweight commuter e-bike.
Tenways’ new Chain Model CGO600 Professional makes its debut with a significant upgrade: replacing the standard single-speed belt with an 8-speed Shimano drivetrain, offering unprecedented flexibility and control on the road.
Fortunately, the Chain Model CGO600 Professional retains the essence of its authentic counterpart, as previously showcased in our in-depth review earlier this year.
The primary upgrade on this model appears to be the novel chain drivetrain, utilizing a reliable Shimano 8-speed configuration. Notwithstanding its similarity to the existing Chain Model, the new Tenways’ C9 350W hub motor will be featured in this variant, boasting identical specifications to the MiVice hub motor found in the belt drive version – a 350W output and 45 Nm of torque.
Tenways’ latest motor boasts an innovative internal clutch mechanism designed to significantly reduce friction whenever the device is not in operation, ensuring a smooth transition between powered and manual modes. This innovative design significantly boosts vitality efficiency, resulting in a remarkable 50% increase in gliding distance when compared to traditional hub motors.
The e-bikes retain consistent features, boasting identical Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, 700C wheels, and a MiVise torque sensor that provides additional, intuitive pedal assistance. With no throttle and a top speed of just 20 mph (32 km/h), this bike is inevitably classified as a Class 1 electric bicycle.
Equipped with a robust 350W motor, the system relies on a reliable 36V 10Ah lithium-ion battery pack featuring high-quality LG cells; however, it remains unclear whether this battery meets the stringent standards of UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certification. The compact 360 Wh capacity ensures a reduced overall weight of just 37 pounds (17 kg), while the eco-friendly pedal assist still enables a respectable range. A high-definition OLED display on the handlebars offers riders real-time information on the battery’s charge level, along with other essential riding data.
According to Tenway’s specifications, the Chain Model CGO600 Professional boasts a claimed range of 53 miles (85 km), which appears to be attainable only when using its lowest pedal assist power setting. Typically, an e-bike’s efficiency at around 7 Wh/mile isn’t commonly achieved in everyday use unless the rider is committed to a fitness journey and deliberately minimizes their reliance on the motor’s power assistance? Although casual cyclists may not always select the lowest energy mode, the bike should still offer an estimated range of approximately 25 miles (40 km) at more energetic settings around 15 Wh/mile.
Tenways introduces its brand-new mannequin, available in its signature color palette featuring Avocado Green, Pebble Grey, Midnight Black, and vibrant Sky Blue.
The Tenways Chain Model CGO600 Professional, priced at $1,399, is now available online.
