BYD launches the Han EV and M6 MPV in Vietnam

BYD has unveiled two innovative automotive offerings in Vietnam – the BYD Han EV, a cutting-edge electric sedan, and the BYD M6, an electric multi-purpose vehicle that redefines the concept of family transportation. The BYD Han EV starts at approximately $58,800 USD, with a price tag of 1,489,000,000 Vietnamese dong. The BYD M6 MPV, meanwhile, begins at around $29,800 USD, priced at 756,000,000 VND.

The Han Electric Vehicle (EV) serves as BYD’s flagship pure-electric sedan, initially introduced to the Chinese market in 2020. The mannequin has been revitalized for the 2025 model year, featuring a revamped rear suspension system, an updated palette of physique colors, and enhanced LiDAR sensors for improved navigation capabilities. The Han EV, a new electric vehicle, was unveiled in China this September at an introductory price of 165,800 yuan (approximately $23,200 USD) for early adopters.

The pure-electric BYD M6 is currently not available in China and can only be found in Indonesia and Thailand. The unique combustion engine M6 was first introduced in China in 2010, underwent several facelifts over the years, but ultimately ceased production.

As BYD’s latest offering, the M6 MPV took to the roads of China for a comprehensive test drive. With its sleek design and innovative features, this people-mover promises to shake up the market.

BYD made its entry into Vietnam’s market on July 18th, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global expansion. BYD launched with the Dolphin, Seal, and Atto 3 – a trifecta of models carefully selected to introduce its brand to each new market.

Rumors had circulated that BYD would establish a manufacturing facility in Vietnam, but sources now suggest that the project is being put on hold indefinitely. As BYD’s production facility in Thailand nears completion, the company may soon begin exporting its vehicles to Vietnam, potentially reducing reliance on imports from China.

As BYD ventures into Vietnam’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market, it must navigate a competitive landscape dominated by local player Vinfast, as well as Chinese rivals such as NIO and SAIC-GM-Wuling. In 2023, Vietnam registered a total of 404,294 vehicles, with electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for approximately 6% of this figure.

Despite being the pioneer in the EV space, Tesla's sales have stagnated, while other manufacturers like Toyota have made significant gains. The latter's latest offering, a sleek and feature-packed electric SUV, is generating buzz and driving interest in eco-friendly motoring.
