Recently, news that Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory is poised to start mass-producing its latest models has garnered significant attention worldwide. Chinese social media users are abuzz after a blogger reported on October 19 that Tesla’s Model Y production is set to commence at its Shanghai Gigafactory on October 22, with an initial daily output of 12 units, and cellular connectivity will be limited during the process.
In February of this year, Tesla USA informed employees via email that it would not be launching a facelifted Model Y in North America in 2024. Elon Musk has consistently refuted claims about the impending release of the novel Tesla Model Y on his official social media account.
As a response to customer experiences, a brand-new Tesla Model Y is in development, featuring a potential upgrade option with a 95 kWh battery pack, inspired by the sleek front end of the Tesla Model 3 Highland and the distinctive through-type taillight design reminiscent of the bold Tesla Cybertruck. The optional crimson shade trim adds a touch of elegance to this design. It’s reportedly delayed until 2025, with no mention of a 2024 launch for the new Tesla Model Y. Moreover, blogger S.E. Robinson, Jr. Revealed on the X platform in early September, a camouflaged Tesla Model Y prototype was spotted by an observer in Palo Alto, California, USA.
While the production of the newly launched Tesla Model Y in China has commenced, its accuracy remains to be formally verified.
Tesla’s inaugural overseas production facility in Shanghai celebrated a milestone as its three-millionth vehicle left the assembly line earlier this month, with a remarkable pace of one car every 30 seconds. To date, the export quantity has reached an impressive milestone of over one million autos. According to Tesla, manufacturing velocity saw significant growth, with the first million vehicles taking 32 months to produce, followed by a notable acceleration when production shifted from two million to three million units within just 13 months.
Last September, the Tesla Model Y sold 48,202 units in China, representing a 16.35% increase over the previous year and a 6.34% rise from the preceding month. Compared to August, the company saw a significant surge of 2,872 additional units sold, with its gross sales topping the charts among all SUVs.
