When the next-generation hybrid system debuts in the Subaru Forester and Crosstrek, it is expected to deliver a significant boost in horsepower upon its arrival in the U.S. market. in these fashions.

Subaru has officially confirmed the introduction of the Forester Hybrid at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show. Attributable to arrive at U.S. Dealerships have been spotting the 2026 model in testing over the past year.

2025 Subaru Forester

Subaru is introducing its first-ever hybrid Forester model in the US market, following up on its success with the Crosstrek Hybrid, which debuted earlier with a plug-in hybrid powertrain built around components sourced from Toyota. The Subaru Crosstrek plug-in hybrid variant ceased production following the 2022 model year. A previous report from last year suggested that the all-new Crosstrek Hybrid is also headed to the US market, featuring the same powertrain as its sibling, the Forester Hybrid.

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, boasting the innovative “Sturdy Hybrid” powertrain, has recently debuted on Japanese soil. In collaboration with Toyota, the jointly developed variant featured a supplied electric motor and 1.1-kWh battery pack, complementing Subaru’s signature 2.5-litre flat-four engine and renowned all-wheel-drive technology. It appears increasingly likely that the next-generation hybrid model will not come with a cost-effective port option.

2025 Subaru Crosstrek

According to Subaru, its new technology anticipates a 20% reduction in fuel consumption, leveraging a combined output of 158 horsepower from the gasoline engine and 88 horsepower from the electric motor. The current US-market Crosstrek is equipped standardly with a 2.0-liter flat-four engine producing 152 horsepower, with a non-mandatory upgrade option featuring a 2.5-liter flat-four that boosts output to 182 horsepower. The Forester’s base model is equipped with a larger engine, which is listed by Subaru at 180 horsepower.

The collaboration between Subaru and Toyota also encompasses all-electric models. The Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X electric vehicles are currently the only battery-electric models sold by their respective manufacturers in the United States, as of now. Subaru has announced plans to release a second jointly developed electric SUV in 2026, one of four new EV models set to debut by the end of 2028. By 2030, the manufacturer aims to achieve a remarkable 50% share of electric vehicle (EV) gross sales.
