Changan’s Deepal Auto has publicly disclosed the technical details of its inaugural compact sport utility vehicle, the Deepal S05. The Deepak S05 offers a dual-powertrain option: a purely electric variant and an extended-range electric configuration. Five distinct trim levels are available for selection.

The official launch date is expected to take place on October 20th. Pre-orders commenced on September 20th, requiring an initial deposit of 1,000 yuan (approximately $140), which could be upgraded to 3,000 yuan (around $425). The retail value remains uncertain and needs to be officially confirmed.

Deepal S05 design overview

The Deepal S05 diverges significantly from its predecessors in terms of design, introducing a sporty aesthetic that sets it apart from earlier models. The automotive features a sealed entry grille combined with a three-part downward air intake. The automobile measures approximately 4.62 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 1.6 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.88 meters.

By leveraging advanced technology, the vehicle will offer features such as an electric trunk, ambient ring lights, and high-definition LED headlights. The sleek, modern design will feature frameless doorways and discreetly integrated door handles, a hallmark of our brand’s attention to detail and commitment to sophistication.

The interior boasts a sophisticated two-toned colour palette, complemented by sleek chrome accents that wrap around every edge. The car’s design also features discreetly hidden air-conditioning vents, as well as an advanced 15.4-inch health monitoring display and intelligent cruise control capabilities.

The Deepal S05 stands out for its unconventional approach to instrumentation, replacing the traditional dashboard with a large Heads-Up Display (HUD) that puts all critical information directly in the driver’s line of sight. Many fashion brands incorporate the Qualcomm SA8155P automotive chip into their designs.

The Deepal S05’s advanced range-extending module leverages a 1.5-litre variable-extender system, which enables a maximum output of 72 kW from the extender and a peak power of 160 kW from the electric motor. The electric motor is coupled with a 27.28-kilowatt-hour battery pack. This electric vehicle has a pure range of approximately 200 kilometres.

A key component of the pure electric model is its 175 kW electrical motor, paired with a 56.12-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This configuration enables an estimated range of 510 kilometers according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The Deepal S05 is the company’s flagship entry-level sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Deepa’s gross sales have displayed a consistent upward trend, with 120,710 units delivered between January and August of this year. Despite the producer’s revelations, we’re still waiting for the official price disclosure.
