Honda recalls hybrids due to possible fuel leaks

Honda is issuing a recall in the US, affecting various models including hybrids, due to faulty fuel pumps that may fail.

The auto manufacturer announced a recall on Tuesday, stating that affected vehicles include the 2023-2024 Accord and Accord Hybrid sedans, as well as the 2025 Civic and Civic Hybrid sedans, with the 2023-2025 CR-V Hybrid crossovers also impacted. Although NHTSA data wasn’t available at the time of publication, it didn’t provide specific statistics on hybrid vehicles.

The automotive industry may be facing a potential issue with certain high-pressure gas pumps that contain faulty cores, prompting a response from Honda regarding these potentially hazardous devices. As equipment operates over time, minor fractures may emerge, potentially causing hazardous gas escapes that pose a significant fire risk to the surrounding area. If a gas leak occurs, drivers may detect an unusual gas smell when their vehicle is in operation, as has been known to happen with Honda models.

Sellers will inspect the high-pressure gas pumps at no additional cost to themselves. Honda intends to dispatch proprietary notice letters to owners by December. Homeowners seeking information on Honda recalls can reach out to the company’s customer support team at 1-888-234-2138, or visit their dedicated website for comprehensive details and updates.

The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid signals its comeback amidst a plethora of recalled vehicles, supplanting the Honda Perception, essentially a rebranded Civic sedan with distinct styling. With Honda’s innovative 2-motor hybrid technology, the Civic Hybrid effortlessly delivers a fuel economy of 49 miles per gallon combined (50 mpg city, 47 mpg highway) in its sleek sedan form. The recall does not appear to impact a hatchback’s potential presence in the market, as its design and functionality remain unaffected.

Honda anticipates that its freshly launched Civic hybrid will eventually comprise 40% of overall Civic sales, with current hybrid models already driving more than 50% of Accord sales. Here is the rewritten text:

Honda’s decision to offer hybrid powertrains across four Accord trim levels has resulted in only two non-hybrid options, one of which is a new addition for the 2025 model year.
