On October 15, the MG ES5, a compact electric SUV designed for everyday use, officially launched, boasting three distinct range options: 425 kilometers, 515 kilometers, and 525 kilometers. The Samsung Galaxy S series was rebranded as ES5, effectively replacing its previous designation. Estimated to range from approximately 100,000 to 150,000 yuan (or $14,100 to $21,200), the project is expected to debut later this year. The MG ES5 is set to be exported, with a test car spotted in Europe in August.
Built upon SAIC’s innovative Nebula pure electric architecture, the MG ES5 features a sophisticated 5-link rear suspension setup. The vehicle measures 4.48 metres in length, 1.85 metres in width, and 1.62 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 2.73 metres. The curb weights available for selection are 1685 kilograms and 1740 kilograms. The official most usable interior space within the automobile measures approximately 4.24 square meters.
The sleek entrance features a striking shut-face design harmoniously paired with razor-sharp headlights and elegantly chopped grille elements at the rear.
The sleek, modern design is underscored by characteristic features such as door handles that exude a sense of sophistication, blackened exterior aspect mirrors that provide a touch of understated elegance, silver roof baggage racks that add an air of adventure, and Y-shaped through-type lights that create a striking visual statement.
Two rim sizes, 17 inches and 18 inches, are available for selection. The electric motor generates its power output from the rear, producing a maximum energy of 125 kilowatts (167 horsepower) and a peak torque of 250 newton-meters. The vehicle’s 0-to-100 km/h acceleration takes a swift 8 seconds, while its top speed reaches an impressive 170 km/h. Equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from the CATL-SAIC collaboration, offering capacities of either 49.1 kWh or 62.2 kWh, the CLTC pure electric range options are 425 km, 515 km, and 525 km, contingent upon CLTC testing conditions.
While touted as the world’s thinnest, the official claimed battery pack thickness of 110 mm warrants mention.
Within the cockpit, a familiar central management display screen layout is adopted, featuring an intuitive instrument panel and a sleek, flat-bottomed steering wheel. The exact display screen dimensions have not yet been disclosed. The centre console features an innovative hole design, providing additional storage space on its rear surface, accompanied by two cup holders and supporting wireless phone charging capabilities.
A panoramic sunroof can be a current feature in many modern vehicles.
