A Chinese-language blogger posted a leaked photo of BYD’s forthcoming FCB Bao 5 SUV on October 6. The exterior design of the vehicle exhibits minimal changes compared to its predecessor, with the most striking difference being the addition of a roof lidar, while the lower trim of the side mirrors now incorporate alternative sensor technology. The FCB Bao 5 may arrive equipped with the advanced Huawei ADS 3.0, mirroring the technology found in its sibling, the FCB Bao 8.

On August 27, BYD officially announced that its FCB model will collaborate with Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system, with the primary vehicle to adopt this technology being the FCB Bao 8 sport utility vehicle. At the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show, Xiong Tianbo, the general manager of BYD FCB, revealed plans to equip various FCB models with Huawei’s advanced driving technologies in the future, alongside the FCB Bao 8. By adopting a “two-pronged parallel” approach in its overall strategy for intelligent driving, BYD reportedly combines open collaboration with unbiased evaluation to achieve success.

Wang Chuanfu, CEO of BYD, underscores the paramount importance of intelligent driving, as he recently stated in a media interview with Yang Dongsheng, the head of BYD’s Intelligent Driving department.

Xiong Tianbo, a prominent figure in the automotive industry, hinted at exciting developments in Future Car Company’s (FCB) product roadmap, suggesting that the brand may expand its portfolio to include city-focused SUVs, sedans, and a diverse range of merchandise, in addition to its hard-core off-road SUV offerings. By introducing the Bao 3, FCB is poised to launch a novel intellectual property (IP) in the market, which will eventually be exclusive to their flagship automotive brand while permitting multiple IPs to coexist across their lineup.

The current FCB Bao 5 collection available for purchase boasts a price range of 239,800 to 302,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately $34,200 to $43,100 USD. The Bao 5, a flagship product of the FCB model, made its debut in November 2023. In September, the Bao 5 recorded a significant milestone, purchasing 5,422 items and propelling its total gross sales to 36,135 items.
