Tesla supplier CATL had a fire at its battery factory, says impact on production is minimal
SHARE

CATL, the globe’s largest battery supplier for electric vehicles and a crucial partner of Tesla, suffered a significant fire that burned for hours at one of its primary Chinese battery manufacturing facilities.

Modern Amperex Expertise Co. As the world’s leading battery cell supplier to the automotive industry over the past few years, (CATL) has rapidly ascended to prominence, showing no signs of slowing down.

The Chinese corporation plays a crucial role in Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai success, supplying it with LFP battery cells. The Gigafactory in Shanghai is Tesla’s largest and most productive electric vehicle manufacturing facility.

When industry insiders discovered that Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) possessed a crucial asset in its Ningde, Fujian province, China-based Z plant, many stakeholders became invested.

A fire broke out on the plant yesterday, reportedly so massive that it took hours to bring under control.

An industrial fire reportedly erupted at the manufacturing plant of China’s leading battery manufacturer in Ningde City, Fujian Province, on Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday, China Airlines Taskforce (CATL) reported that the fire had been successfully contained and put out, with no reports of injuries or fatalities.
The company has yet to determine the cause of the persistent issue with the fireplace, and further research is required.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of fatalities. The reason behind the continued existence of the fireplace remains under investigation.

The corporation anticipates a minimal impact on its manufacturing operations.

Electrek’s Take

If accurate, that would undoubtedly be a boon for the automotive industry, heavily reliant as it is on Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL).

CATL’s battery manufacturing capacity surpassed 259.7 GWh in the previous year, accounting for more than one-third of global electric vehicle (EV) battery production capabilities.

A disruption in their operations could have a significant impact on the business, with potentially far-reaching consequences for Chinese-language automakers.
