Jeep considering hybrids without a charge port for US

Jeep may expand its 4xe plug-in hybrid lineup to the US market after experiencing positive results from the initial launch. Line up as nicely? Studies automotive information.

According to Jeep’s International Product Planning Vice President Matthew Nyquist, normal hybrids are “one of several issues we’re exploring” – a “natural extension” of the company’s existing plug-in hybrid offerings.

Although Nyquist hasn’t specified a timeline for Jeep hybrid releases, the model’s popularity has been fueled by decreasing battery pack costs and the appeal of plug-in hybrids over traditional models. According to Nyquist, hybrids have rapidly spread across various market segments in the U.S., which could help Jeep stay competitive if they are included.

Following CEO Antonio Filosa’s comments earlier this year, there is speculation about a potential fully electric Jeep model destined for the US market, following the Wagoneer S, which is expected to arrive in showrooms later this year. In an interview with Autocar, Filosa revealed that Jeep is exploring diverse powertrain options for the Recon, although a purely internal combustion engine appears to be ruled out.

Jeep’s move away from plug-in hybrids could represent a significant strategic shift for the iconic brand. The Wrangler 4xe has been the top-selling electric vehicle in the U.S., and Jeep is set to expand its plug-in hybrid lineup with a Gladiator 4xe pickup truck, joining the popular Grand Cherokee SUV in featuring a 4xe model.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has also pledged an expansion to the U.S., with the company confirming plans for range-extended plug-in hybrid variants of its Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer three-row SUVs. With a range of electrified options already available, the brand’s focus on high-performance models with exceptional efficiency stands out, eschewing traditional hybrid configurations in favor of more innovative approaches.
