The Toyota RAV4 Prime drops its “Prime” moniker and rebrands as the RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid for the 2025 model year, yet maintains its overall identity unchanged.

The Toyota Corolla: A New Era in Efficiency?

For 2025, a total of $2,425 is required for the trip, comprising the $1,395 vacation spot charge and other costs. Here’s a mid-range option for the SE, serving as the entry point in the PHEV range, with the top-of-the-line XSE priced at $49,130. In each circumstance, that warrants an improvement of $175 versus the 2024 RAV4 Prime.

The RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid still derives power from its 18.5-kWh battery pack and achieves a combined fuel economy of 38 mpg in hybrid mode. An onboard 6.6-kilowatt charger enables full charging in just 12 hours when utilising a standard 120-volt, 15-ampere Stage 1 alternating current supply; conversely, switching to a more powerful 240-volt, 10-ampere Stage 2 AC house charger significantly reduces the charge time to approximately two and a half hours.

A 2.5-litre inline-four engine combines with Toyota’s conventional hybrid system to power all-wheel drive models, featuring a dedicated electric motor driving the rear axle – an arrangement that, according to Inexperienced Automotive Studies, proves surprisingly adept off-road when operating in EV mode. The complete system’s output is approximately 302 horsepower, and Toyota estimates that it will reach 60 miles per hour in just over six seconds. The RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid stands out as one of Toyota’s fastest vehicles, and it’s a rare breed among plug-in hybrid compact crossovers that prioritizes power and speed.

The 2025 Hyundai Tucson debuts with a bold refresh, yet lags behind the Toyota RAV4 in electric range by a notable 33 miles. The Kia Sportage’s associated plug-in hybrid variant is capable of covering 34 miles solely on electric power. Mitsubishi’s Outlander plug-in hybrid boasts a respectable 38-mile electric range, paired with an occasional-use third-row seating option and rapid DC charging capabilities – although it still employs the somewhat outdated CHAdeMO protocol.

The Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid is expected to arrive at dealerships by the end of this year.
