Hybrids now account for over 60% of sales, the automaker stated Monday, as it detailed pricing for the 2025 Accord.

In 2014, Honda introduced its two-motor hybrid system in the Accord, having previously offered hybrid variants sporadically prior to that year; however, it was only with the mid-size sedan’s latest redesign that Honda seriously committed to increasing hybrid sales. This marks a significant milestone where hybrid grades outstrip their non-hybrid counterparts for the first time. By 2025, Honda will offer just two non-hybrid models, with one being a newcomer for the year.

According to Honda’s announcement in August, the Pilot became its third-best-selling model, trailing only the CR-V and Civic in terms of sales volume. The Honda CR-V has long offered the same two-motor powertrain found in the Accord, whereas the Civic is set to debut this configuration as part of its 2025-model-year overhaul. Honda expects hybrids to finally account for 20% of global sales by 2025.

The company has recently reaffirmed plans to produce hybrids at its upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Marysville, Ohio, set to launch in 2025. Honda is set to launch its brand-new hub, a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that boasts a joint-venture battery plant in partnership with LG. This state-of-the-art complex has the unique capability of assembling both hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) on the same production lines, according to the automaker. Honda aims to adapt its offerings to accommodate varying customer preferences and demand for electric vehicles.

As Honda strives to achieve 2 million electric vehicle (EV) sales by the end of the decade, its commitment to hybrid technology remains unwavering. The automaker aims to capitalize on its electric vehicle hardware by introducing a novel hybrid all-wheel drive system, while also seeking to restructure its hybrid operations over the next five years, targeting enhanced efficiency by 2026-2030.
