The ICAR V23, an off-road electric SUV, has been officially announced by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), with availability options including a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD). The all-new automobile has been jointly developed by Chery and Su Jun, founder of Zhimi Know-how, marking the first model under iCar’s V series, which concentrates on the off-road vehicle market. The official market entry is expected to occur later this year, with a price tag spanning from 119,800 yuan, or approximately 16,500 USD, in the Chinese market.
According to reports from Automobile Information China, Xiaomi has been involved in the development of iCar V23 as it holds a stake in Zhimi Technology, a subsidiary of the company. Notwithstanding the clarification from Xiaomi, it appears this collaboration bears no relation to the company or its ecological network, encompassing Zhimi technology. This agreement is exclusively between Su Jun and Cherri. In 2021, Su Jun embarked on an ambitious project to revamp cars, marking the beginning of a significant journey; three years later, Su Jun joined forces with Chery, forming a strategic alliance that would further enhance the brand’s innovative iCar model.

What innovative electric vehicle developments can be expected from the iCar V23? The square-shaped design may offer enhanced aerodynamics and storage space, but what about its charging capabilities, range, or safety features? Typically featured in hardcore off-road SUVs is a rugged field form, characterized by spherical headlights, substantial bumpers, an elevated entrance hood, broadened wheel arches, and prominent side steps.

The primary exterior storage area located at the rear is indeed present as well. The concealed storage compartment within the vehicle’s interior appears inaccessible unless the outer layer is manipulated.
What are the exterior dimensions of the iCar V23? The vehicle measures 4,220 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width, and 1,845 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm. With its rugged design, the RWD and AWD variants of this off-road SUV boast impressive approach angles of 39 and 41 degrees, respectively, as well as departure angles of 35 degrees, highlighting its capability to tackle challenging terrain. With curb weights of 1710 and 1825 kilograms, respectively, these models ride on generous 19- and 21-inch rims, further underscoring their rugged nature.

Furthermore, the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) configuration offers optional left and right cameras, an entrance bumper camera, left and right radar sensors, front and rear radar sensors, a palette of front exterior colors, and a range of rear exterior color options.

Equipped with advanced technology, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model offers a range of optional features, including alternative rear exterior paint colors, unique wheel eyebrow designs, customizable front-face colors, additional cameras at the front, left, and right sides, as well as front, rear, and side radars.

The rear-wheel drive variant is equipped with a potent 100 kW (134 horsepower) electric motor and a high-capacity ternary lithium-ion battery pack. The all-wheel-drive system leverages the same rear electric motor, complemented by a 55 kW (74 hp) front electric motor, and is matched to a reliable lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Trims have a prime pace of 140 km/h. The detailed parameters have not been formally introduced at this present moment. Beforehand, Cherry also disclosed that the rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant boasts a range exceeding 400 kilometres, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model has a range surpassing 500 kilometres.

Within the iCar V23, designers have employed an abundance of rounded and angular elements, complemented by a subtle splash of yellow accents. Below the central management display screen, the air conditioning system’s retail and management controls are situated. The middle console features a multi-layered architecture.
