The XPeng G9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) achieved a perfect 5-star rating in the China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) safety and crash test evaluation. Its general efficiency is 86.6%. This outcome aligns with the specifications of the JAC Yiwei 3 (DI:E30X) compact hatchback. CarNewsChina analyzed crash test outcomes to assess the safety performance of the Xpeng X9, identifying both its strengths and weaknesses in terms of protection.

What do we know about the new electric SUV from XPeng?A thorough investigation into the Xpeng X9 crash reveals that the incident was likely caused by a combination of human error and technical malfunction.

The XPeng G9, a spacious and modern minivan, made its debut in early 2024. With its impressive measurements of 5293mm in length, 1988mm in width, and 1785mm in height, this object commands attention with its substantial presence. This automobile offers a choice between two distinct powertrains: a front-wheel drive (FWD) option generating 235 kilowatts (320 horsepower), or an all-wheel drive (4WD) variant producing 370 kilowatts (503 horsepower). The entry-level X9 boasts a substantial 84.5 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The revised text reads: The second pack is a ternary Nickel-Mangan-Cobalt (NMC) battery designed to store 101.5 kilowatt-hours of energy. The cruising range of this MPV spans approximately 640 to 702 kilometers on a combined cycle test.

The starting price range for the Xpeng X9 varies from approximately 359,800 to 419,800 Chinese yuan, equivalent to around 50,800 to 59,270 United States dollars. Compared to its electric counterparts, such as the Zeekr 009 and Li Mega, this option appears more budget-friendly. Between January and July 2024, Xpeng successfully delivered a total of 14,602 X9 minivans to satisfied customers. This is a top-tier offering, considering the niche appeal of this product.

What do we know about the new electric SUV from XPeng?

The safety efficacy of the Xpeng X9 MPV was assessed through the C-NCAP crashworthiness program, developed by the China Automotive Technology and Research Centre. CATARC established C-NCAP in 2006. Since then, the analysis’s normal standards have become increasingly strict. In recent times, China’s C-NCAP analysis programme remains closely tied to the widely recognized Euro-NCAP crash testing framework.

The evaluated XPeng G9 is the 702km Long-Range Max trim level, boasting a price tag of ¥399,900 (approximately $56,450 USD). The top-of-the-line variant of the X9 features an all-wheel-drive system.

This autonomous navigation system is specifically designed for urban environments. The more affordable trim options lack this feature. The X9 702km Long Range Max boasts a comprehensive computing power of 508 TOPS, courtesy of its dual Nvidia Drive Orin X processors. The Orin X processor is optimized across two early trim ranges to deliver an impressive 254 trillion operations per second (TOPS). The X9’s additional functionality includes a pair of 126-line LiDAR sensors. The X9 702km LR Max’s various security features are aligned with its distinct trim levels.

A thorough investigation into the Xpeng X9 crash reveals that the incident was likely caused by a combination of human error and technical malfunction.

The overall rating for the Xpeng X9 MPV stands at an impressive 86.6%. Compared to the average efficiency recorded in the 2021 China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) safety test, our model boasts an impressive 3.1% increase in common efficiency among participating fashion brands.

During the occupant safety phase, the Xpeng X9 achieved a notable score of 86.18%. The article thoroughly explored the concept of pillar impressions, providing a comprehensive understanding. Despite this, the passenger dummies situated inside the cabin had been only minimally deformed following the full-width frontal impact. The results of Xpeng’s minivan for the specified period show a modest 0.34 percent rise above average sales figures.

The pedestrian safety rating of the Xpeng X9 is the lowest among its peers. The score of 69.92% represents a 2.67% decline from the typical outcome. During a collision, pedestrians are at risk of sustaining injuries due to the rigid nature of the vehicle’s hood.

In a remarkable feat, the Xpeng X9 boasts an impressive 97.68% safety rating within the demanding security phase. The increase is 13.16% higher than usual. The sole drawback was the lack of a velocity assistance system. The Seres-Huawei collaboration yields its second-best result with the Aito M9, boasting impressive specifications. While evaluating the Xpeng X9, it’s essential to note that we’re considering the top-trim front-wheel-drive variant equipped with all available advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) hardware. Decreasing trim ranges would unlikely be considered excessive, particularly for the 702-kilometer long-range maximum X9 model.
