Yadea Elite Prime review: The full-suspension e-scooter you’d never guess is so powerful
SHARE

All of Yadea’s latest full-suspension electric scooters boast sleek designs. The properly contoured forged frames, combined with twin swingarms supporting the entire suspension bundle, and a single-sided mounted wheel configuration, give the scooters an appearance of effortless suspension, as if they’re effortlessly hovering at their optimal angle? This model’s sheer potency makes it the most impactful among its peers. Beneath its charming façade, the Yadea Elite Prime harbors a surprisingly potent secret: a maximum power output of 1,500W, concealed within a sleek design that could just as easily adorn a fashion spread featuring a statuesque model in haute couture.

While at first glance this scooter may not seem like a high-performance vehicle, the Yadea Elite Prime is capable of impressive acceleration and can quickly leave the pavement behind. How does the scooter perform in my video assessment below? Let’s continue exploring and gathering more information about this fascinating small rocket.

Launching off the road

Here’s what sets the Yadea Elite Prime apart from its smaller counterparts, the Yadea Elite Max and the compact Yadea Artist: this feature. Following the initial kilometre of driving, you gain access to the full power mode on the scooter, unleashing a significant boost in torque.

During my initial attempt, I accidentally achieved a wheelie from a complete standstill. I hadn’t factored in that level of intensity from an electric scooter that initially struck me as innocuous and amiable.

Most scooters are powerful enough to enable mashing the throttle fully down and holding it until you reach the desired speed. Within its highest energy mode, the Yadea Elite Prime boasts an impressive amount of energy and torque, necessitating careful modulation of the throttle – akin to riding a motorcycle or accelerating in a car. It’s astonishing that most sub-$1,000 scooters fail to deliver on this level of performance.

While it’s true you shouldn’t always keep the scooter in its highest energy mode, you’ll likely be better off not using that highest mode regularly, unless you know you need all that power for spirited acceleration or navigating significant hills on your daily commute. With its impressive 30% incline capability, you’ll be able to conquer even the most challenging slopes on this reliable scooter.

More crucial than mere energy alone is the solace it brings, which is where scooters truly shine. There exist dual aspects of solace in this very instance. One notable aspect of the scooter’s performance is its effortless acceleration, which remains consistent across all modes except for the highest energy setting, where it exhibits a slightly more pronounced surge. This predictable and smooth acceleration creates a sense of stability, making it feel like you’re in complete control. While the scooter’s overall fit is decently compact, its twin suspension setup featuring an independent front fork and a rear swingarm contributes significantly to this snugness.

The innovative design of the single-support system on the entrance wheel allows for effortless tire modifications, making it a convenient and stylish feature. By combining the forged body with an alternative to traditional extra welded connections, you achieve a strikingly modern appearance.

While this scooter is not designed for rugged off-roading, its suspension will still perform admirably on occasional curbs and pothole encounters. The ten-inch pneumatic tyres are impressively large, even by scooter standards, making them particularly effective at smoothing out the ride and providing a cushioning effect when encountering potholes.

While there’s one space that I’d have preferred to see improved, it would be the scooter’s prime pace. At a cruising speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), the Yadea Elite Prime accelerates rapidly but quickly exhausts its momentum, preventing users from achieving higher velocities one might expect from a powerful scooter like this.

Being a double-edged sword means having both positive and negative aspects simultaneously? While I appreciate the flexibility that allows me to arrive earlier and keep pace with visitors, it’s undeniable that swift acceleration on stand-up scooters doesn’t always correlate with desirable outcomes? While proceeding at a slightly more leisurely pace may offer some enhanced security advantages.

Despite its slower pace, this eco-friendly mode of transport yields significant benefits, enabling up to 40 miles (64 km) of travel for every unit of fuel spent. As your speed decreases, your altitude increases, making it challenging to maintain top speeds and expecting to cover 40 miles. Even at top speed, approximately 700 watt-hours of battery capacity enables reliable coverage for the majority of urban commutes.

The counterbalance to a fulfilling experience is often found in the load. The scooter tips the scales at 64 pounds (29 kilograms), its substantial weight notwithstanding. The folding mechanism exudes stability and a sense of safety, rendering me confident in choosing to lift and transport it without concern for unexpected re-opening. While not everyone may want to transport 64 kilograms of aluminum, copper, and lithium over long distances. While carrying luggage up a flight of stairs or onto a subway train can be necessary, it’s often a tedious experience rather than a pleasant one.

Despite the issues with weight and prime pace, everything else about the scooter met my expectations for a comfortable, full-suspension ride. With firsthand experience at one of Yadea’s factories, I’ve witnessed the meticulous attention to detail that goes into assembling their scooters, making me confident in their nicely constructed product. With its array of innovative features such as flip alerts, regenerative braking, and sleek design, this vehicle offers more than initially meets the eye.

For $899 from Yadea or its equivalent price on Amazon, this scooter appears to be a dependable choice for a secure, comfortable, and durable ride. Although it’s not lightning-fast, this device consistently delivers solid results, earning my admiration and reluctance to part with it. I thoroughly recommend this scooter to anyone seeking a reliable ride that balances decent power with manageable speed, ideal for navigating hills and everyday commutes.
