XPeng officially launched its latest electric vehicle, the G9, on August 27. At the Chengdu Auto Show, Xpeng announced that it received more than 30,000 orders within just 48 hours of its new model’s launch. Xpeng’s visionary founder, chairman, and CEO He Xiaopeng, personally presented the inaugural models to their delighted new owners.
The Mona M03 is priced between $16,900 and 119,800 yuan. The high-end M03 Max, boasting enhanced urban navigation, is expected to hit the market following the 2025 Lunar New Year. The car boasts an impressive low drag coefficient of 0.194, making it one of the most aerodynamically efficient mass-produced electric sedans on the market, which enables it to travel up to 620 kilometers on a single charge from its 62.2 kWh battery.
The Mona M03, with its dimensions of approximately 4.78 meters in length, 1.89 meters in width, and 1.45 meters in height, has been engineered to prioritize both aerodynamics and weight reduction. The car features a 15.6-inch central display, with options including a 599 yuan steering wheel-mounted screen. The autonomous vehicle is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, enabling advanced features such as 360-degree panoramic imaging and high-fidelity 3D map rendering.
The manufacturer offers a range of motor options, including high-power variants producing up to 140 kW or 160 kW. Additionally, customers can select from two battery capacities: 51.8 kWh or 62.2 kWh. The lightweight design, with the heaviest model tipping the scales at just 1739 kg, underscores its versatility and effectiveness. Xpeng highlights the significance of its car’s aerodynamic design, boasting features such as an energetic air intake grille, which notably reduces drag.
Xpeng’s Mona M03 is viewed as the brand’s attempt to expand its market share by offering an aggressive and competitively priced smart electric vehicle. The comparison examines how BYD’s Qin aligns with its target audience, specifically cost-conscious and environmentally aware younger consumers seeking affordable yet impressive electric vehicles. The cost-effective Mona M03 features a rear torsion beam suspension system instead of a warmth pump, ultimately driving down production costs.
Xpeng’s latest innovation, the Eagle Intelligent System, is set to make its debut in the Max model. It offers superior driving assistance without relying on lidar. The new system aims to deliver exceptional driving performance and will be thoroughly reviewed as part of Xpeng’s upcoming models’ integration.
Xpeng aims to sell 10,000 units of its Mona M03 model per month and is working on new designs. Despite lofty expectations surrounding the Mona M03’s potential to boost sales, the company’s overall performance remains muddled. XPeng’s gross revenue margin surged to a robust 14% in the second quarter of 2024, outpacing key rival NIO and signifying a significant milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer. Notwithstanding a sluggish start, complete car gross sales from January to July 2024 totalled just 63,000 units, well below the target for the year.
